Is there a way to work on asus ( i have a g1), wiht the lid closed? i hooked it up to my LCD tv, and because the laptop sit right under the tv, the only way to see the tv screen is to close the laptop lid...but, it goes in sleep mode or whatever...Is there a soft switch or a program out there to keep the laptop going in sleep mode, or closing the lid mechanically will always triger the laptop to shut down?

control panel -> power options -> advanced:

when i close the lid of my portable computer:
"do nothing" needs to be selected.

I don't recall if this is identical in vista, but it'll be under power options, and something about "when i close the lid of my portable computer"

you can always set it to never shut down in your power options. but using it with your lid closed may lead to overheating.

heat is let out through the keyboard area....so if you use your notebook while it is closed, the heat will be trapped.

Aren't you able to output it to the TV speakers?

I agree; My Toshiba gets dangerously hot when I close the lid.

ok, so you can do it in power options...now, why is overheating, because it will run continously, or because in this mode the fan won't work? or maybe because the lid is closed all the way and touching the lower part of the lap? what if i will keep the lid at about 2-3 inches above the base? 'cause in my case doesn't need to be closed all the way down in order to see the screen on my tv...

Meh... Never had my W3J overheat. I shut the lid all the time when it is on. Doesn't even get warm.

It doesn't usually overheat with the lid on, just gets quite warm, hot sometimes too. And because hot air is emitted out so close to the LCD, its not healthy :)

    Try this..
Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Advanced tab
Under "When I close the lid..." , change the "Stand by" to "Do nothing"
