Hi folks!
I´m trying to find an asus lappy with matte screen and XGA/WXGA resolution.
Core duo would be nice too.
Am I out of luck?
-
Unfortunately, I think so... can't think of any with Core Duo and matte..... I think the old z70va centrino might've been matte... not sure though
-
Yes, the Asus 70va did have a matte screen, there are a few vendors that still have them sitting around, but it has a Pentium M instead of the core duo.

All the laptop screen in the market use glossy screen rightnow, probably, it is not possible to get one for a Core Duo model. If you really need a matte screen, you must be backward the previous or discontinued model for using a Penitum M Centrino cpu such as z70, z71,, z9, A6, z3......
Cheers -
Despite what others are saying, you DO have options. Some places such as btotech.com offer a special matte lcd display for certain models, however, usually you pay around 100 dollars for such an "upgrade".

Acer TM8204, 15.4" 1680x1050 matte screen, it's great.

Thanks, I've scoured all the resellers sites so often its sad. I notice little details like that, all the sales, promotions, blah blah blah
-
Thanks alot everyone!
Yes I´ve noticed that btotech has a matte screen option however I think its only for the WSXGA+ resolution.
I´d like a matte XGA or WXGA -
Powernotebooks.com also have matte screen options with some of their Compal brands if I'm not mistaken.

You gotta watch out for places like btotech though. The screen replacement is way expensive. Just to get the screen for a 3 year old notebook (not a very good screen either) was like $400.

You really don't need to say that about Eddie... it's not a rip off in the least.. the $100 is the cost of the labor, and assuming he can sell the glaretype display or is saving it for other warranty work - it's quite fair actually... If someone wants an older screen, so be it..... there are more people with matte type displays that probably wish they could upgrade, so there's a market to get rid of those glaretypes if they build up.
Just the other day a guy from the forum asked me if he bought a V6j could he get the matte type display that was in the V6v? If he wants to come forward and ask the forum - I know there will be tons of people throwing themselves at him.... 9 times out of 10, people who think they don't like glaretpe displays simply haven't used a good one in their normal environment..... that's the big problem. -
Justin,
I couldn't agree with you more on the point about Btotech - people talk without knowing jack about what they're talking about and ruin reputations. Whether the matte or glossy is preferred really boils down to personal preference though and isn't just a question of whether we've used a really good one. To illustrate, I've used the Asus matte screen and it was incredible and now I have a W7j which by all accounts features a pretty nice glossy screen and I don't like it very much. In fact, it's my biggest problem with the machine - one that I love and would recommend to everyone in spite of the glossy screen. It depends alot on working conditions but to me the glossy is a pain and I wish they'd never have thought of it. -

I think he wasy saying that we charge upwards of 450$ for screen replacement if you have a broken lcd panel that is out of warranty or purchased elsewhere. I guess thats too much but if you dont like it find it cheaper.

Anyway...... I'm not quite sure people understand "old parts"..... Once a systems goes out of production, the parts typically aren't made anymore and that means what's left gets less and less by the month. After a certain person of time, what's left to purchase is like gold... especially when you consider either you replace it, or the rest of the computer is worthless..... It's simple supply and demand..... and the thing is, we try to stock certain parts over the long term, but often we can't keep them in and the cost to buy them simply goes up.
Typically we try to get customers to understand that they're system is really made up of 3 equal parts.... pretty much... the lcd, the mobo and the components...... on average, that works out.... so 1/3 of the cost of your system is what an lcd or a mobo would cost to replace.
I think this thread has no outlived it's initial purpose.. -

Wow, people need to calm down. Geared2Play (BTOTech) is the only one who actually caught my mistake. I misunderstood one thing, so some people need to calm down about acusations of others not know what they are talking about (compeletly replacing a screen is still expensive). Second, this wasn't a personal attack on anyone, I am just stating that I think it is expensive to have a screen replaced, if that offends you, you should probably go back to childrens storys. Also, I would say that the $99 is very good for the price of an exchange. This type of hype about one mistake is what has been brining this forum down.

to btotech:
Is it possible to get a matte screen version of the A8j series notebook? I'm really torn right now between the performance/portability of the a8j(s) due to come out and the compal hel-80's bigger resolution matte screen. I do gaming as a well as digitial editing work, so it is a tricky toss up. -
I've owned both matte screen and glossy screen laptops. If you want gaming and digital editing you should go for the glossy screen and save yourself ~$100. If you want full time word processing and/or programming, matte may be better depending on your predisposition towards reflections/glare. I too was concerned about glare on these glossy screens, but right now I have a window five feet behind my glossy screen and I can't see a reflection at all (it is day time). Now if I have the shades up and the sun happens to shine right through it and hit my screen just right, it will show up noticeably. But that's almost never happened
-
Yes, I suppose I can always try out a anti-glare screen protector at some point. I STILL can't get a response if anyone has used one, and I ask in about every thread that its a relevant point to bring up. Oh well.
Can anyone say what the screen on the A8j series is like under brighter light conditions?
The problem with me is that I've looked at both matte and glossy type screens. Some of either type are horrible, some of either type are great. Unfortunetly, no one in the area has a A8j I can look at and get a feeling for. -
I´m looking at the geared2play page here;
http://www.geared2play.com/store/products/laptops/asus.htm
The Z96F is said to be offered in 15.4" WXGA 1280x800 Display Color Shine or Matte
However the configuration page for this model lists only a WSXGA+ Color Shine upgrade.
It should be possible to change the screen to WXGA matte through the VBI program. The Quanta TW3M is matte WXGA and VBI.
Could you do it Eddie? -

Ye its not a problem. Matte would be available also
-
Oooh.. would it be possible to order one of the Ensemble models with a matte screen? Obviously it would void the warranty, which I think I'd have to be ok with, since it seems to be the only way to get a nice laptop with a matte screen.

Its possible however the f3j is the only current model that uses a 15'4" screen. We do not offer it under our custom elite section. So even though it is possible it will not happen. We only offer the w3j v6j and w7j as part of the customize section
-
Thats very cool Eddie! Thank you!
May I ask...
How is the quality of this matte WXGA screen compared to the best non IPS matte screens out there?
Will you use the quanta screen?
Asus with matte screen?
