Hi everyone! I am very new here, Still learning(at least trying) all about computer tech! Thank you for reading!

    * I have a Asus L4L, XP,

Few days ago, my laptop I think crashed. I was trying to recover it by using the recovery disc but it failed me.

Before I say anything. I have to admit that I was very very stupid that I didn't back up my files... and there are many important photos of my father whom passed away 3 years ago....so here I am asking for your help...

I wanted to save all my file under D: so I chose to recover with recover to first partition only.

First time I tried, in the middle of the recovery it showed > PowerQuest PQImage window and wanted me to insert media 2 containing file"Y:\ASUS.002 into drive Y" OK or No ( I don't believe i have the kinds of disc anyway)after I pressed OK then it showed, The media does not contain the file. But if I press No then it stop reccover. I had to reboot from that point.

Then I tried it again it showd error#1822, Error: No partitions selected...

I tried it with the XP disc, same thing happened.

Then I tried reboot to window xp, it showed rebooting to windows XP then C:\PQER....

I am really lost and have no idea what's happening with my laptop. I really need your help!

    Thank you so much!

    Blue.

The media 2 containing file"Y:\ASUS.002 that it is asking for is the 2nd CD that contains all of the drivers. This second CD should have come with your laptop, if not you should be able to get Asus support to send you a new one since it is just Drivers. Some one else who owns the same laptop as you may also be able to send you a copy of the CD or an ISO.

If the important photographs you had were stored on the second partition D:\, then they are still fine and can be accessed even if you don't manage to get windows reinstalled using the recovery CD's.

I want to thank you so much for your quick respond.

When I tried to fix it now, it no longer shows me the option of > PowerQuest PQImage, insert media 2 containing file"Y:\ASUS.002 into drive Y" OK or No, anymore.

    1. If I tried to recover for the recovery disc form ASUS. after pressed esc,
due to the files that I want to save on my D drive. I chose recovery to the first partition only, it started the recovey confirmation but after that it just showed me >>> error#1822, No partitions selected....

    2. If I try to recover from reboot to windows XP, it shows me C :pQER

    3. If I try using the XP disc, it shows me C :pQER

It might be just a few of very simple steps to save my laptop, But I am just not good with it at all. Thank you in advance for guiding me through.

I have the recovery discs, th driver & utility disc and the XP disc with me.

I can't see why this is not working and I am assuming that your recovery CD's are in good condition and not scratched or anything.

If you still can't get any of this to work, I would try to get a stand alone copy of XP SP2 / SP3 and install from that and then use the Drivers CD to install all of the drivers. You can also try to source a Bart PE bootable recovery CD so that you can boot up allowing you to copy your files from the D:\ to some where safe.

I think you should get in contact with Asus support and explain everything to them in detail though.

When I reformatted my laptop, I didn't use the recovery discs because they were missing a lot of files (did not include the preinstalled softwares when you bought the new computer).
To get all files as if it was brand new bought, I booted my recovery from a hidden partition in the hard drive.

I restored my computer just right now because some files were corrupted and chkdsk did not solve the problem. What I did was press F9 on startup, then select "setup Windows EMS." The recovery/reformat screen follows, then just press "next." No discs required, all files are from a hidden partition and my laptop's files are as if I just bought a brand new laptop. Tell me how it goes.

It might be too late by now to suggest this, but -

Before going any further with recovery CDs and stuff, I'd try to look into getting those important docs off of your HD. A gadget I adore the most is this Vantec adapter thingie. LINKY It's inexpensive and turns any drive into an external USB drive. If you can find access to a friend's computer, you should be able to pull those pictures off. Just make sure the pins align correctly.

I just recovered my 83x2 using the recovery disks right now, I forgot for a while to press F9 during boot-up and that was it. It should work..
