I've read through some of the thread pages and gathered information from around prices to estimate around $1700 - $2200, where are you guys getting this information from, and how reliable is it?
Also, when is the expected release? Mid-December? Or is it possible to buy this notebook now?
-
MSRP: $1799
ETA: Mid-December
This info is directly from ASUS North America [Fremont, CA].
You can e-mail me if you would like to join that list or visit http://www.notebookforums.com/thread109690.html for more details. -

Their ETA was officially pushed to End of December on Tuesday as well, although they said some may come in towards the middle of the month. My guess is it'll be like this last W2p shipment which wasn't even enough to get our hands wet.... but the information above is as confirmed as it can be without a visual inspection and that wouldn't come till they arrive. Our list is filling up nicely, but there should still be plenty of room. -
-
SWEET. I thought someone said that there would be no bluetooth on the systems but it looks like they really are equipped. -

Yeah, just like not having enough water..... it's almost a tease. As of today, I throughly *****ed out Asus for not even having two dozen of the W2pb's to hand out...... Their response was "well as of Monday night, they still didn't even have an ETA" - meaning we were already thinking it could be January before we get them. However, when we got a couple, and then an announcement that they were in stock, I assumed the rest of our order would be coming. Basically, Asus doesn't announce something is in stock unless there are a couple hundred pieces.... Anyway, more are coming, but my release statement in another thread is almost a bit pre-mature because we'd tpyically keep two in house "just in case", and right now, we've had people in line for these since June - so a handful of them wouldn't touch that list.
With the G1's though, Asus said they're in production now and wanted a firm amount on how many we needed so they could try to make that release go smoothly..... we'll have to see though... We should have supply of the G1 and G2 for everyone already on the list and probably all possible names that come in over probably the next week or so. -
Justin, or Danny, or Eddie, or whoever, I know you guys aren't supposed to reveal shipping amounts, but just wondering how many G1s and G2s are Asus shipping to you guys? You can make it really vague, like "Over 100 units" or something, but I'm just wondering if Asus is shipping more units than their usual amounts...

Most of our G1 pre-orders are fulfilled, will ship out no later than Monday, also possible tomorrow.
BTW, our A8Js with Factory installed bluetooth will also be shipped the same time with G1. -

To be more accurate, our USA G1 buyers who I can reach today are all fulfilled.

I kind of agree with Danny. The LG S1 is a super sleek notebook, with the shiny piano finish. It definitely looks better than the A8Js, but I don't know about the G1. The G1 is really nice too.
Off topic from the Asus forum, but since Danny brought it up, does the cover of the LG S1 scratch easily, or leave lots of fingerprints? Just curious. -

Asus almost got like what would be comparable one of those multi packs of your favorite food/candy/etc... a couple pieces of each flavor, but not enough to fully satisfy. We have G1's coming in tomorrow with bits and pieces of more R1f's - R2h's - more A8js' - more W2pb's... but it's ridiculous. Asus said we should get 30 pieces, but that won't fulfill those on the list already. More are expected at the middle of the month, and that shipment should be much, much larger. I'm going to reserve judgement on our final allotment until it shows up and we know exactly how many came.... Afterall, we were expecting about 30 W2's and we got 3..... This time tomorrow night we'll know what's going on a bit better.

Yes Danny, I love this notebook
And smartsam11, it leaves fingerprints but you can only see them if theres a lot of light directly to the lid. About the scratches, mm I don't have any yet -
Is the button between the keypad keys for MCE? or anything else logical?
-
Talking about the V1: it specifically list in the spec that it has a spill proof keyboard, while the G1 does not! does this mean the G1 does not have a spill proof keyboard? -

Red Bull? Coop Battlefield is way more fun when your teammates are drunk.

Are you alluding to the fact that you are 200% more likely to be randomly fired upon and run over by your teammates under those conditions?
-
AHAHAHAHAHAHA Don't worry, it all evens out
Back on topic, folks that get the G1 please review it for us. Personally I'm curious about the battery life. -
I'm waiting for a few reviews also. Several users in the UK have a G1 and have not gave us a review yet...... HURRY UP!!!! lol j/k

Hello all,
We will be posting a review of the G1 later this AM. Spent most of the day yesterday doing the review.Stay tuned. . . .

Why can't MilstonePC or ProPortable give reviews? On top of their knowledgeable expertise, they can also provide thorough comparison(s) towards other ASUS laptops or other brands (e.g. LG) that they might also carry.
On top of the simple fact that they're among the first ones to receive the laptops. -
Well, pretty much dealer reviews aren't end users, they may know it inside out, and have used it for a bit, since they have to sell it, but they aren't usually an end user. They will not spend weeks with that same notebook(Though in some cases, they may - Eg. Justin used a W3v for quite a while IIRC) doing everything from gaming to research, etc. Dealers are often business orientated, and not in situations where they are, in this case, LAN party go-ers, or students.
However, not to say their reviews suck or anything, usually it's quite plentiful in information and pictures. Just lack the end 'experience' of the notebook. -

I already do reviews, you can see them here:
LG S1:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=69108
ASUS R1F:
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=3557
ASUS R2H:
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=3795
But it is also nice to see customer's reviews and their point of view, plus we do comparisons on a bite size manner. Plus have that lovely table above showing comparisons of performance of many laptops. Not only that, but other resellers here, provide small bite size information and comparison of laptops too. -
Ok, I've found an American review:
http://www.xoticpc.com/article_info.php/articles_id/25
Highlights:
The harddrive is seagate, not Hitatchi
3d mark scores somewhat low
"Run time was with all devices enabled
Screen 50% Brightness: 3 Hour and 31 Minutes
Screen 75% Brightness: 3 Hour and 20 Minutes
Screen 100% Brightness: 2 Hour and 58 Minutes" -
i like the G2, seems a good system.
if the create a "G3" with similair laptop design to the G2 but with a 1920 x 1200 Screen & HD-DVD Drive i would no longer have a decision to make.
that would be the system im after.
looking at the W2PB version as we speak, but i like the look of the G2 -

.... The G2 is a great system, but you won't see it in the configuration you're looking for because the essence of the G series is to be afordable.....
-
Hey justin, how much is the W2? and is it true that ASUS will no longer offer support for the V6J?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
I never like questions that start off "is it true", because it implies it was heard through someone...... and 80% of the time, people didn't hear it from anyone... and say 15% of the time it was heard from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about..... and I think I'm being fair allowing 5% for true factual sources...
When you say that you mean? If you mean that Asus is not going to put out another V6 refresh, I don't think they will... It's only been around for 2 years, but the thing is Asus is getting away from the regular ratio screens... The V1 certainly isn't a replacement for the V6... the V2 in a lot of ways may actually replace the V6 and W3, but it's sort of up in the air at this point. World wide it probably has another year in it, but in the US I'm fairly certainly we buried the V6 before the leaves changed in the fall.
As for "support" support... that's ridiculous, Asus is still supporting the M1a - that'll be 6 years old....... they still have parts for systems as old as the M2a which is 5 years old......
W2 w/ WSXGA is $2,500
W2 w/ WUXGA is $2,800 -
I haven't seen any s/w updates for the V6J for a while. Someone i know from the ASUS service center told me that ASUS will stop offering support for the V6 in the near future. I hope he meant the V6 refresh and not the driver updates & spare parts...
OMG the W2 is freakin expensive
I guess my next ASUS will be an AS(S)mobile(more value for money)
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Well there are only so many updates that can be done on a system....... updates ususally pour in as chipsets change and driver updates for new things come out..... if a model isn't being updated, and all drivers currently work, there is no need to do updates that don't exist or aren't needed... that might be what was meant...... but knowing how these guys talk, he probably means they're not going to refresh the V6 because as of now, they're going to keep the Lamborghini Vx1, which is a V6.... and continue to update that.
Asus' first REAL gaming laptops (G1P/G2P); first single spindle since the S5 (S7Fm); Lamborghini Vx1 "Golden Edition"
