Ok, well for all of you that have purchased a new Core2Duo Asus over the last month and half have all run into the fact that Asus didn't have a 1 year extension plan for you to buy. Well the new packets arrived on Friday and they're simply amazing.
Changes:
OLD: Needed to be purchased (basically with the laptop) and filled out and mailed in within 15 days of purchase.
NEW: Needs to be purchased within 90 days of your laptop purchase and is activated 100% online. There's a CD that comes with the package and on that CD are the warranty terms (handy to save to your computer) and a link right to the webpage you need to register on.
OLD: Warranty extension was simply good in North America.
NEW: Warranty extends your 2 Year Global to 3 Year Global
OLD: Never really got any "proof" of warranty without calling Asus up.
NEW: You get a credit card style warranty card with a "contract code" that identifies you and your system. You also get a nice little holographic sticker to affix next to the serial number on your laptop to further identify the warranty term.
OLD: $169 for 2 Year North American extension (for a total of 3)
NEW: $129 for 1 Year Global extension (for a total of 3)
All in all, this is a much better package and although one might scoff that the price isn't more like $90-100, I remind you that this is both a full Global extension and the cost of the warranty revolves more around a percentage of problems with computers in general during that third year than it does with simply 1 year over the old 2. If the new notebooks came with only a 1 year warranty and they offered a 1 and 2 year extension - the 1 year (for the total of 2) would probably be only $80-90.
It's really cool and anyone who's bought a system within the last 90 days can purchase them. I don't know if they're sku'd up just yet, but I'll make sure they're up tomorrow as I know there have been questions about this package over for at least the last 2 months.

Hey my first post here.
I just joined the Asus "club" last week, having bought an old-model/new-unit - a W3V from Newegg.
Does this warranty extend to all new purchases, such as mine? Do I have to go thru Newegg to set it up, or do I have to go to Asus' website?
Most importantly, what is actually covered under the warranty? If it's just extended tech support, I can pass. But it's accidents, or lost/stolen or other, I'll buy a 6-yr extension. -

In my case, my old model, new unit is the V6Va, which comes with a 2-year global warranty by default, because although the V6Va was supposed to come with 1-year global, the computers were shipped by ASUS's mistake with 2-year global printed on them, so ASUS, in an act of good sportsmanship, honors 2-year global for the machines (I have this concession in an email ASUS sent me). I bought my V6Va on Sept. 22. I should qualify for the extension, right?

Well, I got the run-around from both Asus and Newegg, which I wasn't surprised by.
Called Asus first, who said I had to purchase it thru the vendor. {makes sense}
Called Newegg who said they didn't offer any Asus warranties, they use a 3rd-party company. They suggested calling Asus again.
Called Asus, ask for someone in their client relations (sales?) who would know more about this. Got someone who obviously didn't know much about this, but she did point me to their webpage about ASUS Warranty Extension Package.

You should be able to purchase that for any Asus laptop, so long as you meet the conditions that are specified, things like a certain time after purchase, notebook condition, things like that. Justin will probably fill in the details for you soon.

I was originally going to purchase the G1 from Proportable. I gave them a call and they told me there they had a lot of backorders and they didn’t have an ETA it said that it may take up to the 1st week of January.
I asked around and XoticPC.com told me that if I bought from them, that I should receive the laptop before Christmas.
I placed my order yesterday and they are expecting more stock later this week.
Yeah, so anyway, I still need to purchase an extended warranty and Asus's seems to be cheaper than XoticPc's. So Justin, please confirm that if I purchase the extended warranty from ProPortable, that it would still work with my recent purchase. -

We will only sell the warranty to customers who bought systems from us, yes. Not everyone carries the package and if that is just another reason for customers to buy from us, that's business..
Likewise though, we're also getting more G1's in, we just don't like to get everyone excited for no reason........ because Asus has more coming in, but they didn't anyone a number of how many yet. -

No, Asus doesn't sell them. I might be able to help you out, but stock issues are pretty important this time of year and we don't have tons of the warranty packages... so frankly, it's something we need to keep as a service to those purchasing laptops. You just need to buy it within 90 days....... and after the holidays, we'll probably have much stock of the pacakges and we may offer it up to anyone.
I didn't mean to come off like a jerk or anything (I actually thought about my last post over lunch)... even though it's an Asus product, for us it's a service that not everyone will offer (because it's $130 in overhead for what is simply a packet of papers to us, with no real value but to customsers with systems)... so it's understandable why not everyone would want to waste their time carrying it. However, it's just another thing that we have to offer and that makes us a great operation.... Certainly didn't mean to come off like we refuse to sell them to anyone else... but in a way, it's just like a normal warranty.. it's something we offer to our notebook customers more as a service, not an accessory. If we can stock 100+ of the packets and there was a margin to be made on them, then we'd sure as hell offer them up as more of an accessory... Perhaps that's why we do...... notebook buyers get one price, those that don't get another?!? Not really sure.... but why don't you drop me an email and I'll help you out. -

I just called XoticPC and they told me they will be adding Asus's 3 year extended global warranty to their site in about a day or two for $129. I think it is the same one that you are offering. I will try to see if I can purchase it from them first. They also said I have up to 90 days after my laptop purchase to buy the extended warranty. If for some reason they don’t update their website or something or don't have the warranty as they said, then I will e-mail you to see what you can do for me. Thanks again.

Isn't ASUS already come in 2 years global warranty? Y need to purchase them again? Also, I see some of the reseller here do upgrade for ASUS notebook but will void the global warranty & instead cover in the reseller warranty. How is that work?

Ok, well if an ensemble is modified, the warranty is voided by Asus - Asus has never set up any of us as authorized service centers..... the only ones authorized to do anything without voiding the warranty are the handful of Asus techs each Asus office has in various countries.
If a dealer does offer a system in a fashion where you don't keep the orignal parts (ie: you can upgrade ram and hard drive, as long as you keep the originals as well to put back in the system), but say someone offers an upgrade swap - where it's $30 to upgrade to this hard drive, instead of buying it out right and having both, but paying $130 or something....... then Asus' warranty is technically void. You're still paying for it, because it's in the cost of the system to the dealer.
Now..... on a moidifed system such as above - you can't buy the 3rd year extension..... and the 2 years that were part of the notebook are a waste.
Now, if you void the warranty by ordering the system with say a modified cpu, or a different hard drive without keeping the original, then it's up to the dealer to offer some sort of replacement warranty...... It may be free (but keep in mind that then there is no money backing that warranty - one thing that has put a lot places out of the Asus business in the last three years), or they may offer some sort of extended warranty through themselves... which then in that case, it would be like paying for the warranty twice.
It's my opinion that no matter what anyone wants - the stock cpu is more than 99% of people will ever need - and it's a good set up for the system they put them in........ Ram is usually easily upgraded because it usually comes with one slot open. With the hard drives, They're coming down in price and a lot of systems have the modular bays, so you could use it for backup or extra storage..... or you could get an external storage case for them... or even just use it in case your other hard drive goes bad. Either way, it's not going to break the bank... but Asus' 2 year global warranty in any case is worth around, if not more than $350.... it's a nice thing to keep. -

Looks like a nicely improved program. Now, I personally don't see the reason to have a 3 year warranty. I have never owned a computer for more than 2 years at a time. I buy one, keep it for 1/2-2 years then sell it off and buy a new one.
Another thing to keep in mind is if you pay using a visa, master, or amex card you should get another year warranty directly from your CC company. Although I doubt it would be global.

Well, it's that 3rd year that is rough on electronics..... Asus is certainly better than the rest.... I still have my original Asus mobo running in a machine that has to be 9-10 years old at this point... and we still have the original Asus M1 we imported running - that's coming up on 6 years old.
A warranty is never "needed" - if it were, it would be a LOT more expensive. The key to them is that 1 in so many will ever need it, so everyone sort of pays into it like insurance. If it were needed... like all systems die after 2 years, either an extra year warranty would be valued at whatever the notebook would be at 3 years old.... maybe $600 or something.. But if a majority were going to have a problem, why offer one at all... right?
I think those of you who have never needed an extra warranty, knock on wood..... A lot of people like to upgrade after 2 years, but not everyone can... and some that are, simply pass the old one off to a family member or a friend.. so in those cases it might be nice to still have the extended warranty.
The way I tell people to look at it...... It's $130 for something you may never need. If on the first day after the two year warranty is up - your lcd or motherboard die...... you're looking at a minimum of $400-500 to replace them........ $900 if both happen to die! So, after 3 years, if nothing happened to your notebook, you may look at that $130 as a waste of money now..... but really, in 3 years, what's $130 really in the overall scheme of things? If you had to make use of it once, it could more than pay for itself though. -
Ok, I got an ASUS F3Ka series notebook, but where do I find the Contract Code and the password in the warranty card? The card states that if I mail the card within 60 days from purchase that I can extend my Accidental Damage Warranty for an extra year...Any truth to this and how much, because as we all know, there are no free lunches!!!

If you register it within the deadline, you get the coverage - simple as that, it's their policy after all.
