It's almost the end of March and the W1J should be - according to ASUS Germany - available by the end of April or beginning of May, that's approx a month away from now.
Yet I have seen very little information of the W1J or V1J, does anyone have an explanation for this? I mean it sounds kind of stupid to not really inform your target group about your new products...
I also tried to contact them by mail, however if I have a question I can only send it through an application form for notebook problems, have to fill in a product code, otherwise I can't send the forum. So basically I am not able to send them a non technical related question.
Does anyone know the reason for ASUS's poor PR?

Isn't it exciting though?
-
Too be honest, I am little impatient as I need a new notebook as soon as possible. Can't wait till the definite release date / price / specs will be announced.
They better hurry! -
Empulse, i've used ASUS's email to ask them a question - i just made up the product, serial number and other information (since i don't own an ASUS computer like u) and then explained my question in the comments section. SO that's not a problem (although it does discourage people from emailing). My problem however, was that the representatives i talked to seemed not to know much...i swear i felt like i knew more than them just from reading these forums. For example the person answering told me that the w1j will remain the same colour, when it clearly didn't. Another told me (in February) that W1 Carbon has not been released yet, while the other said it was already discontinued. Different representatives told me different information, often contradicting each other. So, to me, ASUS support wasn't much use.

That reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I went to the official Sony store here in Stockholm and asked to see the new sz-model. The Sony sales person had no idea what I was talking about. He suggested that this sz - model I was referring to could be some special US version that would never reach Europe (?), and if I would not rather look at the popular vaio s-model. Needless to say, I was annoyed.
I don't know, sometimes it is of course a case of chaos in the company and bad support, but sometimes it feels like we could be a bit too informed for our own good...you know? We are the type of customers that spend a lot of time digging for info on the net, the latest news, to be sure not to buy yesterdays technology. Sometimes perhaps we end up craving things that haven't even left the drawing board...
Not that this realization helps, I still want the latest stuff and I want it now -
First are you guys calling support Lines? becase they wouldnt know about upcoming products not their job. And if you call the sales line all they know is what is out now in that part of the world. They dont know about what they dont have in stock at that time. Thats the same as dell HP and whoever the sales people arent briefed about upcpoming products.

I called and emailed UK ASUS regarding all my questions - theres only 1 number. And i also called US sales dept, hoping they would know something, but got the answer i expected - that the only thing they know is that it isn't coming to North America.
But i agree SRD, bad support is unfortunately the quality of many notebook manufacturers, not just ASUS. (I'm not talking tech support here, i don't know about that). I guess i've been spoiled by the comprehensive knowledge of all the notebook wizards that inhabit computer forums and expect too much from the sales reps for my own good
But ASUS's PR sucks like no other, indeed! If they were a bit more organized and proactive in this area, im sure they would be much more successful here, in this "unique NA market" as they say. For example, i was anxious to attend the "Showcase of the latest ASUS notebooks" here in Toronto a month ago, as advertised on the Canadian ASUS website. It was in York University, so i came there and nobody knew about it. Finally, after 30 minutes of wandering around, i saw a small table in one of the university stores (that had nothing to do with computers) next to the cafeteria. On it, there were lying the w2v, v6v,the w5a the w3v with, as i remember, the old spec sheets. It was organized by one of the Canadian resellers, which i give credit to, at least they're trying. ASUS, up your ante!
P.S
Don't get me started on SONY!! I wish though they refreshed their S line, because i frankly like the design of those notebooks MUCH more than either of their new models. -
Its true though. i have low expectations for support. Which is kinda sad that ive come to expect that from computer and other manufacturers. Frankly i have a different view on things because i am a very advanced electronics user so i normaly know more than any other support, and if i have an issue i find the answers on the net. But for someone who isnt technically inclined i feel bad because for them calling dell HP acer would be a nightmare. especially for software issues how does one who knows nothing about pcs explain software issues to someone from india? doesnt bother me because i fix most my own issues unless i cant because of a part failure.
-
I am lucky too, since both of my parents and my brother are computer programmers
I think we have more computers than rooms in the house -
Not talking about your parents. But i can tell you from working in IT that most computer programers know less about pcs and how they work than most regular office users. They were completly clueless any time an issue came up. they could build code but thats where their computer knowledge ended.

I agree with you! I had to research some of my own info, such as different graphic cards, but my dad knows quite a lot. He builds his own systems and if there's a problem he knows how to fix it, both hardware and software - that's all i need. Although there's one annoying thing about a computer dad: he keeps pressuring me into buying a DELL, cuz they're cheap
But i stay strong, cuz dem DELLs are fugly!
-
if your dad knows that much about computers, he surely would not pressure you to buy a Dell. Don't stop at looks, Dell are poor computers
-
Asus might have a little lack of information but thats what we have Justin for.
-
I think you are confusing knowledge about computers with knowledge about specific pc's.
Asus's lack of information
