Hey. Well, as you might have imagined or doing so yourself, I'm kicking myself for having not waited for the G50Vt. Granted now it is only a cheaper best buy version that I would not have gotten anyway (9800m gaming on WXGA... overkill?) but i'm 100% sure the A1 and A2 versions are coming out soon.

And so, is it likely that Asus will allow us G50V owners to upgrade our GPUs through Asus? After all, the motherboard/chassis/etc seems to be able to support it. Does anyone know of any precedent for this?

For those who say I should've gotten the np8660 or the gateway whatever, I could only have gotten asus because of their (international) warranty.

You cant kick yourself for not waiting for the G50VT, because its an endless cycle anyways there will be something better than that model in a few months.

I would not worry too much until we see some 9800GS bences anyways. The GS is the lowest model while the GT is in the middle.

So a 9700GT may be close to a 9800GS, the big difference I suspect will be the memory buss and thats the only thing that really kept the 9700GT from being a high end card. That and we cant overclock it :(

There will be A1/A2 models, specs are unknown at this point but it will be the same as the G50V-X1 vs the G50V-A1/A2 same gpu, chassis, ect just better other stuff, id guess exactly the same upgrades, better cpu, better screen, better hdd, added bluetooth, better ram.

The no bluetooth and bad screen on the BB models totally eliminates them as an option in my eyes.

Well, the 9700m GTS is 256 bit and it scores in the 7000 range in 3dmark06 according to the ppl at the toshiba forums (i think. saw it somewhere). I'd expect this card to get high 7000s or low~mid 8000s... :(...

I know I really ought not too feel too bad but a 25%~30% jump in performance in the space of a couple months (plus the much better looks... no boring black lcd cover that I now feel the urge to cover with something) is a little overwhelming.

But I concur, the bb version is pretty unbalanced (read: awful). It pains me to think of all the wasted gfx power what with the miserable WXGA screen...

EDIT: And the inability to overclock is also rather stinging... There are quite a few 9600m GTs, even one or two 8600m GTs that perform better than us. Darn you Asus
