Ok, i just got off the phone with Asus.Norway support. I explained to him the problem with the PSU and CPU cutting to 50% performance when battery is charging.

The guy on the phone did not know ANYTHING about this, however he told me he would contact a "level 2" guy who would get on the Asus forums and answer to why the CPU cuts to 50%.

Now i am a bit disapointed because it appears i was the first one to call Asus Norway and tell them there is a problem with the G1S.

It's just a phone call people! Let them know we are not satisfied with the way our G1S is performing! - demand that they fix this or demand some money back or to that you will send the laptop back!

We have not received what we payed for and Asus has not informed us of this major flaw in how the laptop works and performs. It should be in the resellers description "btw this laptop cuts to 50% performance when charging and is more or less useless for the entire ammount of time you charge your laptop"

So i gathered the numbers you need to call Asus tech support. They won't fix this if they are not told how big problem this is! Still remember to be polite when you talk to these guys. If they start wabbling about "power4gear" and set the settings to "max performance" etc - tell them to listen to what you are saying. Refere to their own Asus.com/forums and tell them to go read about it them selves. All G1S has this problem!

This issue is definitely the fault of the power supply? Or a BIOS issue?

I'm curious as to how Asus would solve the issue if it were the former.

well if we are to believe the Asus description of the G1S and G2S they both use the same PSU. Which means it should be a BIOS flaw.

    G2S;

However il need to check this when i get home today. As the reseller i used sells G1S with a 60W adapter as "extra gear".- i better not have a 60W cos that will piss me off!

It might be nice to get a 120W adapter for the G1s just to charge the battery faster. I may think about it.

Is this not a feature that protects the power supply from overheating when charging?

If it really is a danger to the laptop/power adapter I think it's best to live with it?

Yeh, the reason im not satisfied atm is cos its the first time ive seen this feature. -- . cos asus dont want to add some cooling paste or what ever...

I also had a "Whitebox" with the 6600gt card - worked smooth.

and we have 3 other laptops in the family, none with similar problem.

The more I read about this, the more I agree. Given the reputation of Asus, it doesn't make sense to me that they would purposely construct a notebook that required the company to take an extra step in adding a 'feature' such as this. Obviously, they could have made the G1S like they made all their other models, right?
Granted, I do feel it should have been noted clearly, so buyers would know and decide for themselves if it was a pro or con since the G1S is marketed as a gaming laptop. It's crazy, cause only gamers would find it to complain about it in the first place, as I don't think business notebook users benchmark their system very often. :p

Of course, a gamer will insist on having it plugged in and fully charged while playing.

What I mean is, Do we simply have to have it plugged in to play a game all the time? Yes, charge it up daily, but then from what I am understanding, when fully charged both cores engage and system will be at full power until drained again, correct? -- It only lowers processor speed while being charged, right? Please let me know if I have this wrong :)
Perhaps designed as a safety 'feature' for a reason as suggested previously by MrSneis. I suppose I am not expecting a laptop to perform like a desktop gaming system.

Just trying to understand and put all this in perspective. We haven't heard a whole lot from re-sellers and other tech experts addressing this issue. I feel Geared2play and perhaps other re-sellers would be jumping in with more technical insight if their customers were returning the G1s due to poor performance.

yes, we have to have it pluged in all the time or take off the battery. And another thing, this does not happen on the g1 and the G1S is the only laptop on the world that has this "feature". And this is what makes me mad!! for a first time asus laptop this makes me think twice on another asus laptop :(

I wanted to buy the Asus G1S notebook . As far as i know the OS is placed in a seperate partition in the Hard disk and not with a seperate OS disc .
    Is this true? .

I wanted to upgrade the hard disk by placing Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB hard disk instead of the existing 5400rpm hard disk . If i upgrade then the Original OS would be of no use if it is in a separate partition in the hard disk .

People who bought this laptop pls help
