How about waiting for the W3J? It's a fine-looking 14" wide screen with an ATI X1600 256 mb and Core Duo processor. What do you intend to do with your "first laptop"? Are you going to use it as a desktop replacement; if so one of Asus' 17 inchers might be right for you.

W3J?!? oh no.. more consonants with numbers

    :p it sounds good tho'
how much do u reckon it'll cost?

well for one, it IS going to replace my desktop (v. v. old) in terms of work done, and gaming. im thinkg of photoshop, illustrator, and nfs:most wanted (woot) running most of the time for the notebook..

but likely im gonna lug it ard.. um. 17"ers are too heavy, are they?

thanks for the quick rep! my connect n is havg problem tho.. gah.

According to sources it'll cost roughly $1800 USD. W3J sounds like a perfect system for you: powerful (probably much better performance than your old desktop), yet portable. And yes, 17" notebooks are too heavy to lug around for most. My only real grudge about the W3J is that it's coming out in a month or so :(

What screen size did you have in mind, dys? I believe (Justin, feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong) there's a W1j that should be coming out as well. That should have a 15.4" screen. Or the W3j will have a 14" screen.

oh? there's a w1j?! what does j stands for, btw
the specs wld be the same then?

hmm i suppose 14" is a bit too small,
but i can cope if i have to. however. 15.4" wld be nicer.. it's a widescreen then? *holds breath*

oh oh, and price diff wld be..........

If you want a 15 inch screen then you should probably go with the A6j (Z92j) in the USA. It comes out earlier and is configurable. It will have a dual core and an x1600 just like the w3j. I wanted as much portability as I could get with an x1600 or equivalent so I am waiting until the w3j and I can tell you...the wait is long....its dark.....and its cold.....waiting is harsh - so very harsh....

hahaha.. im, withyou on the waiting.. *dusts off self*

but i gotta scrimp and save anyway. sob.

    and so z92j is a6j..
    *lite bulb* ahh..

does the w3j have express slots.. -whatever that means, ehem-.. cause 16j is losing brownie points here for not having it, saying that express will be the way of the future or something like that..

n thanks kier. ps. someone bought an a6j.. wil be waiting for the review..

ExpressCard is the new PCMCIA with the primary advantage of being faster and also a little smaller.

so.. hm. so express is the future of pcmcia
    but
they wun phase out pcmcia so soon right?
so it's like whether you have usb, or usb 2.0
just a matter of the occasional advantage over speed..
    and convenience.. erm yes?

hm im not too sure, but cant think of any extension i wld nd for the notebook.. or am i being myopic. n thx jer..
