Ok guys going to but my ASUS Z70va this afternoon but need a bit more help.

    1. What should I go with 100GB Western Digital or Segate HD. Temp and battery are the biggest issues.

    2. It comes with an Intel wireless card but would I be better with a Atheros 5005 chipset?

Thanks for all the help by the way.

The 5006 is the new one, if you can pay the extra $25-$35, I'd go for that.

Regarding the WD/SG, both are good hard drives, and perform well. The heat/battery differs but won't matter that much since its barely noticable. I'd go for the Seagate since it has 4 years of warranty

Do you find better reception, security, range, less power usage from the Atheros wireless. What makes it superior?

From what I've heard, better range and reception, and uses less power.

I'm still testing the two cards although mines is a 5005, I've heard great things about the 5006.

Some people have had issues with the Intel cards. Mine works fine though.

Probably won't matter what WLAN card you get, they will both do what you ask of them! :p

I recommend getting the Western Digital hard drive. They are the best around, ahead of segate (except for the warranty). I have one - it doesn't produce a lot of heat, is extremely quiet, and most of all, you never hear any of those "clicking" noises when data is written/accessed.

    Have fun!

But if you don't use the Intel wifi card, your system isn't considered :centrino: anymore...

LOL, I didn't get one either!
If I had a Centrino sticker, I would've kept that one on...
I peeled off everything else (ATI sticker, Pentium-M sticker)

the motherboard detects it. So if you take out the intel wifi, the startup logo won't flash centrino, but just "Intel Inside... Pentium-M" logo. I once had this wierd prototype P-M 1.3GHz, and returnd it cuz it wasn't stable, but it didn't report as a P-M to the motherboard (or it didn't register it) and so all I got was "Asus" when i started up.

Are there any Pre-N (Mimo, or the like) internal wifi solutions available for notebooks?

I think I saw a few on eBay when I was looking around.

I wouldn't wander there without knowing what the future will bring...
