I recently bought Asus S550 (i5, 8gb, 750gb, nvdia 640M 2gb vram) and installed my own Windows 8 Pro with SSD. Everything works well except when I go into bios. Once in POST mode, computer is unable to recognize my ssd and doesn't boot up. I tried booting up via USB thumbdrive and doesn't work. Are there any solutions to this? The only way i have found was to put back the factory HDD back into its slot and migrate everything again. If anyone comes across another faster and efficient solution, please let me know.
thanks

Was it shipped with Windows 8 from factory? You might need to disable Secure Boot to boot off of the USB drive.
As for the SSD, that could be a firmware issue with the drive itself. Which drive did you have? -
Yes, it was shipped with Win 8 standard. I disabled Secure Boot. As far as SSD, i have a samsung 840 120 gb.

Could be a BIOS bug. Have you contacted Asus about it? The only BIOS download I see may be the factory BIOS and not an update: https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_VivoBook_S550CA/#support_Download_36
If you can get back into Windows, see if you can update the firmware on the Samsung drive as well
