This is more or less a shout out to all the Borderland Playas out there!!I have a ASUS G71(BBY) model and I'd just like to say that this game(Non Steam Version I like physical retail copies of games) runs absolutely fantastic on all max settings. What's even more important is that it really is a good game.
If you'd like to add me my name in Borderlands is:skygunner27.
It's also the same in PSN(PS3) & Xbox Live.
Oh yeah! If anyone wants to know "yes I will be getting CODMW2"![]()

I recently read that some G51J users here have issues running this game.
I'm glad I have a G71
Hopefully a bios update from Asus can't rectify this problem for G51J owners. -
Was wondering if this game was any good. I like the style of graphics. Looks kinda "drawn". Does it have multiplayer and if you tried multi, how is it?
Should run well on my g51. Oh and does it support multi-core cpu's. -

It has great team multiplayer. You can also battle a team mate if they get on your nerves...lol. I'm only at level 17I didn't notice an option for multi core. My G13 shows that both cores are being utilized at about 40%.
Here's an article that says it has multi core support

Borderlands: Amazing screenshots plus details about Unreal Engine 3
The Shooter-RPG Borderlands where Unreal Engine 3 meets a special graphics style will be released this week. PC Games Hardware presents first screenshots and reveals details about the technology.
While our German colleagues of PC Games already tested Borderlands we at PC Games Hardware rather wait for the final games version. Nevertheless we reveal some details; we start with an Engine overview:
As with former titles, developer Gearbox relies on Epic's Unreal Engine 3 again which was heavily modified, though. The biggest difference compared to most of the UE3 games is the exceptional concept art style: Hand-drawn textures in combination with black lines result in a Cel Shading look which is unique in this form and makes Borderlands stand out from the crowd. The rather simple optics - which plays up during fights, though - is backed up by an impressive technology package: The modified UE3 boasts with Parallax Occlusion Mapping, Soft Shadows, HDR-Rendering, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion and adaptive Depth of Field - the latter is a matter of taste but we like it. According to Gearbox Borderlands is completed by the option to use anti-aliasing and having a slightly better performance under D3D10 - however, both options had not been accessible in the pre-version.
Borderlands: Multicore optimization meets Nvidia Physx
By contrast multicore support already works very well: Borderlands definitely uses more than two cores - even with maximum details at 2560 x 1600 pixels (with a Radeon HD 5870). As usual for Unreal Engine 3, Nvidia's Physx library does the physics computing - to what extent acceleration via GPU will be possible remains to be seen. -

Sounds good! I didn't know you can build a character. The artwork is a nice change from all the army games I've been playing although they are great (just got world in conflict .. spectacular).
I'll look around and see if I can find a demo. -

Characters
There are four playable characters in the game, all with unique skills, abilities, and back stories. As these characters level up, the player can increase basic stats for them such as health totals, ammo capacity, and accuracy. Each character also has three unique focus skill trees to develop, allowing for 12 main character specs and thousands of potential combinations. There is also an accessory item type specific to each character.[4]
Brick (Berserker): A massive specimen of a man who likes to use his fists to smash the enemy above all else. He wears a necklace adorned with the paw of his beloved deceased dog[citation needed], and comes to Pandora looking for his sister. He fills in the tank niche and can take quite a beating. His class specific skill is being able to go into a state called "berserk" which greatly reduces the damage he takes for a short period and makes his melee attacks extremely potent. His Brawler tree increases the power and duration time of Berserk, and also adds damage to his melee attacks. His Blaster tree increases his proficiency with weapons, mainly explosives. The Tank tree increases his maximum health and affects how fast his shield will recharge, and how much damage it can take.
Lilith (Siren): Once a human, Lilith at one point was turned into a siren. One of only six Sirens, they are a group of people with unbelievable powers, but no way to control them. She comes to Pandora in search of another Siren, in an effort to find out more about herself. Lilith's most iconic ability is called "Phase Walk", where she will teleport herself into another dimension where Lilith becomes invisible and can sneak around enemies with massively increased speed. Upon revealing herself, she detonates a shock-wave that can do area effect damage to all enemies.[4] Her skill trees are Controller, which makes Lilith's Phasewalk usable more often, regenerates health/shields, and applies dazing effects to her attacks; Elemental, which makes her more powerful with guns by making the elemental effects of weapons have a higher chance of occurring, and granting her passive elemental damage effects; and The Assassin tree makes her critical damage higher, and increases her Phasewalk melee attack damage.
Mordecai (Hunter): Mordecai came to Pandora in search of a man from his past named Demosthenes. Upon learning that Demosthenes has died, Mordecai sets off to learn how he died and what he was carrying. Mordecai is most proficient with pistols and sniper rifles. His class specific skill is the ability to release a deadly pet Bloodwing which can be trained to kill multiple people at one time. Mordecai's Gunslinger skills benefit his proficiency with pistols (specifically, revolvers). His Sniper tree adds damage bonuses to sniper rifle and makes him a more proficient sniper, and his Rogue tree serves to improve his pet Bloodwing.
Roland (Soldier): Roland is a former Engineer of the Crimson Lance, a sort of highly trained private military that disregards law and order. A decade-old vendetta is rekindled when Roland learns that the leader of the Brigadiers has a suspiciously similar name to a man he has sworn to kill. Roland's class specific skill is a turret. It can be specialized to deal damage, heal teammates, or spawn ammo. His other skills involve increasing the damage he can inflict and making his bullets heal teammates.[4] His skill trees are: Medical which specializes him in healing himself and teammates, Support which improves the effectiveness of his turret, and Infantry which improves his damage with weapons. Roland can specialize in weapons to increase the damage they deal by up to 15%
So far I have been only able to change their color. You can also customize their skills/abilities. -
Game is totally kick . Played it on my G51VX-RX05 last weekend at a LAN party and it was smooth as silk on max settings. Love the drop-in/out Co-op too.
-
Definitely going to check out this title. Online co-op sounds goood.
-
+1 on Borderlands. Works great on both my ASUS G51Vx-X3A and my custom i7-920 desktop build with two XFX 4890's in CrossFire with an XFX 8800GT using hacked PhysX drivers.
Cheers,

That desktop of yours sounds hella sick!! -
hey.. not that i am supporting warez or piracy or anything but did you guys know the torrented version of borderlands can play online as well?
-
I really would like to play Borderlands, but my PC definitely won't be able to handle it, nor do I have any consoles (or a TV for that matter). Xbox 360 is advertised at Futureshop for $199, but can I really justify spending $300+ on a game? Haha, probably not. Oh well, for now I guess I'll just stick to watching walkthroughs on Youtube...
-
Man, I skipped this for MW2, and now I almost regret it
-
Is there a demo of this game? I want to try it out.
-
Had this for PS3 but dropped it since I didn't enjoy the online experience on ps3. it really has beautiful, unique graphics and a great sense of humour, with a large range of environments, but I found the missions a bit repetitive.
Only tried Siren & Hunter, found the latter more my style and mix of pro-sniper skills + uber melee skill (35%chance for 500% damage attack - take into account melee dmg enhancers on weapons and go for critical shots and you're talking Thousands of damage hits 35% of the time!). Almost went with Brick as it just seems cool and different, but meh!
One of the things I liked about this, was so much structure/items/quests almost felt a bit Diablo-esque, it's what I wanted Fallout3 to be, if it only had a radio station to keep you company on single player and maybe more than one active skill... -

If you still need help hit me up on steam (username FλIL). I haven't done any online co-op yet, I've just been doing some single player here and there.

um, just an fyi. on the g51vx with max settings (more specifically, once you turn dynamic shadows on) the game only reaches a steady 60 fps when in the inside areas of the game. when you're outside, expect 30-50 fps. so if you want a constant 60, you're going to have to turn dynamic shadows off, in which case the game looks much less amazing because it turns ALL shadows off. gearbox wasn't thinking when they designed the settings. the draw distance for the shadows is as far as you can see, not optimized as well as it could be. (this is with stock clocks and 186.82 nvidia drivers)
also, there are many issues with the game that you can find out about very easily with a quick search. examples are loss of character proficiency levels and items, must do .ini tweaks to change things that should've been in the menu (mouse smoothing on by default, really?), the FoV is also pretty bad and should be changed more accurately depending on your resolution..
and a quick tip, i'd say ONLY PLAY WITH PEOPLE YOU KNOW. when you join a game the host's ini file overwrites yours.. meaning people can change the hell out of their game (hacked inventories are common) and you could end up spending a long time trying to change things back (so make sure you backup your ini files). online can be pretty laggy for the most part, and loot is free for all, so expect ninjas galore.
the game is definitely fun, but the pc version got the shaft. it is a port from the consoles. and this is something you will find out instantly (terrible menu controls, CANNOT use mouse to scroll quest text, you have to use pgup and pgdn... ?!) -
Thats interesting im running the same g51 and im getting pretty consistent 60fps in all areas of the game. Perhaps you should try the latest beta 260m drivers. And dont try to turn on antialiasing through any hacks. It absolutly screws the performance. There's a reason they dont support that function. I've spent alot of time screwing with the graphics on the game on this laptop and have enjoyed playing it thoroughly.
-
I generally play games that are great online. I hope they address that .ini problem. I'd really like to give this one a try. Are there many options to tweak the graphic detail? How many players are there in a server as you play?
I'm on a g51vx too. Playing in 1920x1080 in some games can really cut the fps down. I'd go down to 1366x768 or even 1280x720 and keep the shadows! -

only the new DLC has SecuRom DRM.

Its sad to report I quit playing this game despite how much I really like it and the concept of the game.
Reason is no support for surround gaming (3 screens) when many other games I am playing do have support for it. I do most of my game time at home where I have the 3x24" monitor setup so I want to make use of it.
For my FPS gametime Borderlands was replaced with Serious Sam HD, but the game of choice for me right now is racing. Dirt 2.
I also got CoD MW2 and it supports surround too just not out of the box, have to use a hack. -
I am loving this game quite a bit. I didn't expect to like it much because I heard it was a bit similar to Fallout 3 and I really didn't like that one.
But this one is quite fun!
I don't know how you guys are maxing this game with fluid gameplay. Unless you are using 1366x768 resolution. When on 1920x1080 I have to remove dynamic shadows otherwise the game stutters quite a bit and runs on the low side.
Currently I am running it at 1600x900, all high and on except for flares and bloom I think. With those settings I get playable framerate and near 60fps on some open areas. -
-
I am currently using 1440x810 resolution and it works well enough with basically maxed settings and forced vsync (I can't stand the screen tearing)
I actually liked how clean it looked all maxed at 1920x1080 withouth the shadows etc, but the shadows do add to the enviroment quite a bit. -
195.62 on winXP ran it maxed. my 4830 can run it maxed as well (underclocked a bit to desktop 9800 GT equiv).

It's AWESOME!
