What exactly does this mean? Will it take up a RAM spot? I really don't know how this works.
-
It takes a Mini-PCI slot.
Some info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robson_flash_memory
But so far it almost made no different.(See the news bits on the www.notebookreview.com about the TurboFlash - the same thing) -
So I can add this later myself?

yes. you can.
-
That is if you have a free mini-pci slot (I think WWAN needs one)
For which laptop ?
(The WiFi uses one too, But I think the laptop has two Mini-PCI ports) -
Yeah, but I've been reading about it and seeing mixed reviews, is it even worth it at this point? Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Basically going to buy a laptop from them and want to know if this is a good use of 100 bucks. -
$99 is a real rip off. Even Lenovo only charges $50. The retail price should be closer to $30.
-
I think it depends on the supplier.
-
I think I'll just skip out on it now and wait for it to be available at newegg or something

yeah its not a biggy, plus it makes it so you cant use ready boost with vista. While that has mixed feedback aswell. Atleast I know there are documented cases where it worked well in certain setups with a good medium.

Hooray for spending a lot of money on overpriced experimental technology!!
(For real, error-proofing the Robson memory almost robs it entirely of its performance gains, and in some cases makes the system it is in even worse.) -

based on what reviews? who ever reviewed a g1s with a robson in it? preformace gain is actually visible to the naked eye i didnt even need a benchmark. to answer the above question. you will not be able to put it in your self without spending hours to dismantle the entire shell and voiding the warranty. ergo 99$
-
Gaaa??? Where did Asus hide those mini-pci-e slots? Arent they suposed to be easy access right under the keyboard or even under a slot at the bottom?
-

well you would think someone smart there said "gee lets put the wifi card where its hard to get there and leave the easy slot open". but noooo someone dumb there said lets screw everyone but the dealer who is the only one qualified to part the whole chassis. i cant complain obviously. i am a dealer
-
Do you mind telling where the empty slot is? Also when you install it do you have to do anything else? Change a bios setting or install a driver or is it just plug and play?
-
I'd probably wait it out and add it once other people have ran g1s's on it saying how well they work. Although apparently your going to void your warranty if you wait. So thats a pickle.

right next to the occupied one but half covered by platic. still testing
-
:s Still testing doesnt sound good. There have been rumors that not all SR laptops have a bios that supports turbo memory. And then there was that whitebook that anandtech tested that had a broken bios in regards to turbo memory. Hopefully Asus took better care and tested the turbo memory even though they are net selling it.

still testing becuase it just went up on the 24 hours ago. is good or bad as it sounds this stuff requires testing. Everything we have done in the recent years with bluetooth mods on various models to screen mods to optical drive mods required some testing. Some longer then others. The bad news is i am the only one who has it being tested now so that makes it that much more difficult.

The only review I have seen of the Robson system was the Anandtech review, and that implementation was broken, so it made the system slower in every single test.
What I found funniest was Anand was testing the Intel supplied Santa Rosa development platform, and it *still* didn't work.
Intel blamed it on the BIOS supplied by the whitebook manufacturer, but if they can't even get a working version of the technology for their development platform, how can anyone else implement it?? -

in a few days i will know and get atleast a few of the models tested/

Anybody who wants to use Turbo Memory (i.e. Robson) on their machine should make sure that A) they indeed have a Santa Rosa machine. (Most of you probably think "duh" but you can always find someone who forgets the obvious.) B) That there is in fact a physical space for it. C) That the machine's BIOS has bug-less support for it. D) They have Vista installed (since it works only with Vista right now). Otherwise, it could be a frustrating experience.
As far as the G1S goes since Asus nowhere talks about Robson, I'd be careful until someone comes up with an actual confirmation that it works. -

I'm not a fan of the Robson Memory. If you look at a few benchmarks out there you will find that sometimes it can help your pc run a little faster. Other times it slows you down. It is worth doing some research before sinking your money into something that could slow your pc down...
