Was your battery fully charged before you started the recalibration?

calibration has been know to kill a dying battery.

If 1 hr 50 min is already a significant drop compared to when the battery was new, then like Eddie mentioned, the recalibration probably drained some cells pass the point of no return :(

I'm getting 40-45 minutes on my 9-month old V1Jp. Somewhere between 40 and 45 minutes, the battery drops suddenly from 60% to 5%. Haven't run recalibration.

jhumur: On the V1Jp, the reason for the significant battery life drop is battery wear. There are many threads on the issue as well as an excellent article by MysticGolem.

You should exchange the battery from warranty while you still can, and take care of it afterwards (see the threads for how to do that).

    @tasmonkey
does your battery start heating up when it reaches around 25%? And around 15% it heats up momentarily and loses power to the whole notebook? I'm sort of worried that the battery heating up when it is low power will cause it to explode.

btw mine's an A8Jp, battery is in service for 10 1/2 months now.

OMG OMG . My notebook is about 3months old and i think messed up the battery. i used to get like 2:15 when the battery reaches 100percent charge. Last week, i ran the battery caliber thingy like for 10sec but hit the power button coz i had to use it. Now when it is 100percent charge, i only get around 1:50. I am gonna run the full battery caliberation again and see if it restores. HOpe so

Yes, do run it again. By turning it off in the middle of the calibration you probably messed up the max charge setting in the battery firmware.

The battery is probably physically OK, though. Just run calibration.

F2 at ASUS splashscreen, enter BIOS, search for Batt Calibration option, activate it

Wait for battery to fully charge. Unplug computer. Let it fully discharge.

    Done.

Really? Then is my battery abnormal? Help! :(

background info - 11 months old battery, ~40% battery wear, starts heating itself (generating heat) around 26% and loses power due to heat when it reaches the temperature (the battery becomes very hot) at about 14%.

Your battery may be beyond repair. See the quote from Wikipedia.

It shouldn't shutdown after 10 minutes in BIOS, there are no power saving features there; that is, unless battery wear is already horrendous (like 90 something percent). What battery wear do you have? (use MobileMeter in WinXP, RMClock in Vista to obtain your battery wear reading).

If you're positive your battery holds more charge than those 10 minutes, maybe it's a bug in the batt calibration code in the BIOS. In that case, try updating the BIOS (see my signature for a guide).

Definitely replace it. It is dangerous to use such a battery, not necessarily for you but surely for the notebook.

Make an RMA form, if you're under warranty (< 1 yr) they will probably send a new battery to you after you send the old one in. You'll have to last for a week without a battery.
