There have been several owners of the Asus Z71v who have had problems with the battery charging. In fact, there's a large thread on Notebook Forums that deals with it. However, we're starting to get impatient with Asus finding a fix for this issue and I wondered if anybody knows more than I do about it. Basically, the issue is that while under AC power, the battery charge light is always on, but the battery never charges past a certain slightly variable percentage (67% in my case). When this happened initially (after 3 months of use), I talked to my reseller & got a replacement. However, after a month or so on the new battery, I'm having the same problems again. Should I send in this battery for a new one also, or is there another problem that's making this happen? Any suggestions are welcome. Cheers, Djembe

I've already made a pretty direct thread about this within the last month. I'm fairly certain that one of the shipments in April came with a battery from a battery shipment that was bad.

Right now Asus is working on testing a bunch of them and is supposed to report back with a serial number range that is effected. Just from initial glances, it looks like most of the issues are limited to the 2nd shipment of Z71v's that shipped sometime in April. Asus has had a lot of people send back batteries that just aren't getting the life people think they should get and this has been slowing down this who process as they've shipped back about 1/4 of what's been shipped to them - because the batteries were really fine. Right now, any z71v battery that won't charge past 90 some percent certainly has a problem. There is a shortage of z71v batteries because of this, so I know on our side.... we've got to wait till Asus can get more batteries in and also tell us what serial numbers should be effected so we can weed out the influx of people who read those threads and just think they can get another battery because some people are having problems.

But even for those who have received replacement batteries from Asus, these batteries are also bad.

I'm not saying they aren't...... but they could be from the same batch. Even the replacement batteries have serial numbers on them and that's why we're waiting to hear some sort of range of bad batteries........ that way Asus can gather them all up and return them to Taiwan.

my battery appears to charge, stop charging, and discharges normaly. However, with MBM i see it has a 3% wear. It's had the same wear from the first day I got it, however, it hasnen't changed since I got it (about a month ago).

I'm not too impressed with this, considering I've owned my M3np for almost a year and it has only a 1% wear! But if you hear anything Justin, please be sure to let us know.
