Hey guys, read in the benchmarks post that the "standard" battery life of the Z70Va is 5 hours? What is your real-life battery times w/ this laptop? I'm considering this, or the sager 5320, and it's a toss-up between the two. Seems the Asus is lighter and thinner but the Sager supports 1900x1200 and has 256mb of VRAM.

I would go with the MSI-1029 and a 2.2ghz TurionMT, unfortunatley MSI in their stupidity only made the resolusion 1280x800.

    Thanks!

4.5 hours max and 2 hours min. Depends on how you use it. Its like asking whats the gas mileage of your viper. All depends on how you race it

Yea, 5 hours is pushing it.

3.5-4 hours would be easy attainable

Again it depends on how you push it. Some people conufuse max battery life for average battery life. Max battery life is stated by manufactuturer. Its rarely realistic

Hey Coriolis what's your battery's Capacity as stated in the battery tab of NHC?

I don't know what it was initially when I got it, but before it said 63000 something, then it kept going up to 64000 something, and now it's at 66315.

I wonder what my battery's capacity was when it was new.

    My wear is at 3%.

My capacity changed after I did a battery calibration, but I interrupted it. Then I ran it sometime later and let it go until it was finished.

I read from you guys that you shouldn't do battery calibrations so I have been using it normally.

I'm guessing the higher the capacity the better, but what is the Z70Va's full battery capacity?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Oops forgot to mention I can only pull off around 3:30 hours when everything is on battery saving mode, cpu is at 800mhz, screen at it's lowest setting.

I remember my battery meters saying 4 hours once. That was before I messed with the battery calibration utility.

Dang, did I damage my battery or shorten it's lifespan? Hope it comes back as I use it normally by fully draining it everytime I use it before recharging.

actually, you're following the procedure for Ni-Cd or NiMH batteries. With Lithium Ion batteries, you don't need to fully drain them (actually it's better not to) to extend their lifespan.

It's been at 3% since September. I actually noticed it was at 3% in early October...

I use the battery quite often

If your battery is losing capacity (which it will) then the calibration utility tries to measure the remaining usable capacity. The updated measured value is then used by the power management software to calculate your expected running time.

Therefore, if the calibration utility comes up with a reduced value for the battery capacity then you will see a corresponding reduction in the estimated running time. If you do not run the calibration utility from time to time you will discover that the low battery alarm comes on when you thought that there was capacity remaining.

The general consensus is that it is better to minimise the number of times that you fully deplete the battery.

Minimize the number of times that I fully drain the battery while using it?

I always thought batteries run longer after full drains all the time?

    Strange.

Coriolis my battery says 3% as well, and has been for quite a while, since october when I got it. Went up from 1% to 3% to 9% then came back down to 3%.

So what is your full capacity as stated in NHC, not the wear, but the actual capacity in numbers???

    Cheers,
    Mike

i've gotten pretty decent battery milage out of my z70va, its pretty knew so there is very little battery wear if any at all. with the modular and the main i've gotten 5 hours pretty easily with wifi on, about 1/3 brightness, and with music going.

I er.. just use it normally. I think i baby the laptop too much XD. The battery is the standard one that came with the laptop. Everything is actually stock provide, including the drivers/bio. No tweak, under clock, or undervolt. Lucky?

    *Edit
My next door neighbor z70v (got from same place and builted by me) gets around the same battery too. Maybe it's the component?

    Hahahaha...FINE deal is done right?

    :D

Weirdness, my laptop is reporting a lower Full Capacity since I just reinstalled a fresh copy of windows. Also, NHC is reporting 5% battery wear now. WTF???
