I have an ASUS G1S, should i leave the ac power plugged in at 100%? or will that kill the battery.

I post it here becuase people keep saying different things and i'm wondering if Asus have a particular trait to them

I also post it here, becuase in the G1S lounge thread this would just get lost and ignored.

It shouldn't kill the battery; the laptop knows not to continue charging the battery once it reaches 100%.

Yeap, batteries and notebooks nowadays have sensors built in so it knows when its full and stops the charging so it doesn't wear away the battery.

And since the battery will lose some charge when the system is on A/C power...it will only recharge back up to 100% when it hits a predetermined charge level (such as 95%). This is known as a trickle-charge.

If you plug it out, you will wear on the battery. Lion batteries only have a limited amount of charging cycles (100%-0%-100%), and if you un plug it you will start wear it down. That's also why it's smarter to connect it to the ac-adapter as much as possible.

I always thought ti was a good idea to take the battery out and only use it when needed ... though I learnt it isn't a good idea during power cuts.

It is a good idea to take it out when not in use.

Charge to 40% and store in a cool place.

The charge at 100% will shorten its life. What you heard is correct.

I'm not sure how significant this gain is. It certainly isn't worth the trouble of removing your battery twice a day, or even twice a week, for that matter.

Yeah, that's really for long term storage so that it doesn't lose charge while not being used.
