    Hi.

I'm really becoming desperate with my heat problems with my g1s. I know there are already enough threads, but i didnt find a solution there.

My System: G1S with Vista 64bit

The problem is, i cant play any game longer than 5minutes, before my GPU temperature raises above 96 (and stuttering starts).

    Things i have already done:
    - cleaning vents
    - bought an cpu cooling pad (zalman nc1000)
    - undervolted cpu

Since the sleepfix doesnt work on my pc (i guess because of 64bit), i have to get the gpu cooler. So the problem on the undervolting is, that my cpu is not getting so hot anymore, so the fan doesnt run on the highest mode and the gpu is not cooled. But as i read there is no tool to control the fan. Since i dont want to void my warranty, i dont want to modify the case, i need another solution.

So what can i do? How to get the sleepfix work in vista 64bit? maybe application to control cpu fan? or other solutions? i really dont know what to do anymore

    thanks

This is a common issue with the G1S. The problem isn't with the CPU, so undervolting it won't really help. Instead, it's a GPU problem (defective Nvidia GPU) and your best option is to send it in to Asus for repairs. Asus would most likely replace your mobo and GPU to the G1Sn mobo and 9xxx series equivalent of the 8600M GT. ;)

I have tried the 180.xx series, but no improvements. And even with the lower ones (currently 174.93 the sleep fix doesnt work

David's advice is the correct course of action you need to take.

Drivers, tweaking etc will no longer help if you've reached this point, unfortunately. Good luck!

My temps always reach 96 º and it normally drops about 10/15 fps.
If I’m playing a game with only 20/30 fps it's normal to start stuttering. But I have the sleep fix , with it my temps go way up to 109 º with zalman cooler , if I overclock it and the temps reach 111º stutter starts .

You can try 177.41 or a fresh install , if it still stutter than ask for a g50 :O and don't take no for a answer

Has it always acted like this or is it a recent occurance? I know I had been having problems with another Asus laptop (W3j) with the video card resetting itself...etc -- bottom line, I brought it to a local shop and we opened it up and there was junk in there (hair, lint...etc) that just shooting air through the vents wouldn't fix.

May want to try the basics before you go too crazy -- if you've already done the basics, then go crazy.

for me, sometimes getting a new cooling fan helps with the heating problem.

Is there a single confirmed case, where somebody got a g50 as replacement for a g1s?

yep there is one here in the forum who got a g50 , but his case was special . His g1s went to repair a couple of times until they trade it for a g50 .

    I don't know any other cases .

Aye, if they stay true to history I would quite expect Asus to attempt repairs initially rather than jump all the way to new replacement.

Still not a reason to deter you from RMAing, however - after all, if they repair the system then it should be back to working at initial nominal levels.

Please keep us posted. I'm having a similar problem, and am interested to see how this goes before I RMA.
