Is there a reason that 1 stick of 1gb ram cost LESS than 2 sticks of 512MB ram? performance issues? whats the reason? almost everyone is doing this...

Ours is about 5$ cheaper. Not sure why exactly, but they go up and down about every other week. It has nothing to do with performance issues in our case.

I love how people bring this up like dealers are putting together systems with good 512mb sticks and crappy 1gb sticks.......

Right now, and you can look this up..... 1gb stick costs about $5 less than two 512's........ No matter how you put it, that's just the current cost. technically, yes, all these new systems run dual channel ram so you'll get better peformnace at 2 x 512mb, but that's up to you to decide if that's what you want.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Dual channel is suposed to boost performance. It does by your talking a few percentage point for the sonoma platform. Its original design for desktops can yield upwards of 70% from what ive seen. Then again if you buy 1gbx1 stick now and think you can upgrade later your putting yourself at risk for incompatible modules. Usually they work fine but i ve seen many times where they do not. If your new module does not work right with your old ......

naw dude..i wasn't implying that ya'll were giving crappy 1gig sticks...i was just curious as to why there is a price difference...I just wanted to know If there was an advantage to go one way versus another...and if that was the reason for the price difference.

No, that wasn't directed towards you... really.... sometimes I hate this type of format....

I'm saying that 1gb sticks have just dropped like crazy... like the 512mb sticks did a couple years ago...... the only thing now is that you have dual channel capability and it's really not up to us anymore to just say... either get just 512 or get a 1gb stick... becasue some people might want the dual channel capability.. But if it wasn't for dual channel, we would even have a 2 x 512mb option on our systems.

    Thanks,
    Justin

As far as my memory serves, this seems to happen every time there's a shift in the market, with the higher capacity memory becoming more popular and the lower capacity memory becoming less popular. Not necessarily outselling yet, but a paradigm shift if you will.

.... It's a very good sign that I think we're about to see 2gb sticks hit the market.... I haven't heard anything and no one has said anything........ but it's just one of those feelings....

    A year and a half ago it was like $1,600 for a 1gb ddr333 so-dimm ... now it's about $140 for ddr2 533 ... go figure.

I've seen Kingston 1gb ddr2 533 as low as $113. Is it (Kingston) still any good? Would this (KVR533D2S4/1G) be compatible with the z70v?

Seriously..... I remember vividly.... I remember because we got 1 of 4 dothan cpus back in February of last year... (cpu didn't come out till May) .. part of the deal with intel was that we make to appearances in comparison reviews (laptop mag and tech tv) ........ To spice things up we loaded the system up with the 1.8 dothan (highest at the time) a 60gb/7200rpm hitachi hard drive, intels pro 2200 (so new intel had to send over beta drivers 10 minutes before the system had to get fedex'd)and 2 x 1gb sticks of kingston's performance ddr333....... wow, what a system. ... and what an expense.... $1,600.00 a pop...

    Thanks,
    Justin
