Hi all,
I research the web for few days already, compare Fujitsu, Dell, Asus which have the 1680x1050 15.4 class notebook with powerful performance.
I think I will go for Asus, but ... I am have experience Asus Motherboard, but Asus for notebook builder is very young, compare with other brand.
And G1S is not a cheap products for me, I am plan using it for desktop replacement for at least three years of about price HKD 15,000 dollars.
So see this forum, search the problems on the G1S, look like some user also experience like RAM added problems with it etc (RAM brand!?)
Do the G1S for general using on the moving for three year? Do the body case is strong enough for mobile moving using? Since I will each day bring it to my company and home for design job. So a notebook strong enough for me with 1680x1050 is important.
And I seeking the web, G1S have many version like G1S-A1, G1S-B2, what is the A1, A2, B2 mean?
And any problems of the G1S much user experience?
Thank you

) and it's a really great notebook (Perfect for doing work and gaming) with the latest drivers (169.21 is currently installed on mine) the power of the 8600M GT comes to it's right
The main difference between G1S-A1 and B1 is that the A1 has a T7500 processor (2.20GHz) and the B1 has a T7700 processor (2.40GHz) and also the hard drive in the B1 is 7200RPM
But i suggest you to buy the G1S-A1, you really don't have to pay a lot more just for 0.2GHz more... It IS NOT noticeable (T7500 vs. T7700) the T7500 is more then powerful enough...
About the body case:
I already moved around a lot with my G1S and that's no problem for me. It is strong enough
And also you get a Backpack and mouse from Asus if you get the G1S.
I hope my meaning helped you out -
In my case, I used to have the Asus G1 (first model) and just recently upgraded it to a G1S (current model) and let me tell you that Asus builds very decent notebooks.
In fact, Asus is by no means "new" on the notebook arena. Oh no...
FYI, there are only a few notebook builders in the world and they are not the brands you love and know the most like HP, IBM, Sony, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba, etc, etc... They all have ODMs to build the notebooks for them. (ODM = Original Design Manufacturer), and Asus is one of those ODMs (a few others come to mind like Compal, Clevo, Mitac, Aopen, Quanta , Uniwill and TwinHead).
So as you can see, Asus has really good experience designing and building notebooks, in fact, those lovely MacBook Pros are built by none other than Asus!
Those are probably companies you have never heard of before. But you have definitely seen their systems under other well known brand names.
So, buy Asus with confidence!
Cheers!

Hi, if you plan to use it on the move be aware that it's quite large and heavy for a 15.4 inch notebook.
Also it's not quite business-quality notebook. So if you take care about it it will probably last 3 years. Then again, it may not.
I would suggest the V1S for using on the go, it's (nearly?) as powerful and it's a business laptop. However it has its own issues and some have said its quality is not so great, either.
What I suggest is you take a look at the V1S, and see if you can use it better than the G1S. Otherwise, go for the G1. -
Well, it all depends...
I feel very used to carry my G1 almost everywhere I go without much hassle. Maybe the included matching backpack makes it feel lighter than it really is but it sure is not that heavy. My previous mainstream 15.4" HPs where even heavier (close to 9 lbs).
So, in the end if you just carry the G1 with power supply and mouse (and a few other gadgets like PDA, external HDD, etc) it will be OK, but if you add a few lecture books then it will get heavy of course.
The V series are lighter of course, but the G1 is not that bad at all!
My 2 cents...

Nope, I wasn't saying the G1 was bad. I was just saying that the V1 could be better at carrying around, and not firstly because of the smaller weight, but firstly because of the (supposedly) better build quality.
In fact, the foremost disadvantage of the G1 is in my opinion the flashy looksThat ruins for me all the other advantages that it might have. But note I didn't make this an argument in my suggestions to the OP

I would advise you to buy this laptop now! The G1S-A1 is well built and soild. I purchased this laptop about a week ago and I have to say I am very happy and glad I made this choice. I done many researches in regards to compare this model with Lenovo, Sony, Alienware, and ect but after reading through many forums and going to a local store to give it a test, I was confident this laptop is gonna be it. The design and hardware works in parallel but not the bloatware that Asus had intergrated. As for the portability, I think is great since it came with the bag I don't even feel a thing when I carried it around. I hope this helps.
BTW, I don't work for Asus : ) -
Heh I can imagine you like your G1S a lot. But we have to keep in mind that yours is a biased opinion, right?
-
I think everybody has to agree that performance wise this notebook is sweet
The G1S is the first notebook i have and in my opinion I don't think the weight is to heavy -
Sure, opinions are by definition biased
(so is mine by the way)

Owner of a G1S here...
As much as i like it, I must say it doesn't feel sturdy as a lot of people are saying...it's quite scary when it's closed how can push on the screen and see it move under the pressure...
I own a old compaq (presario R3000)...and it's much more robust... I had my hands on the new HPs and they really feel sturdier...
I anybody want to trade my asus against an similar HP i'm in -
Can you tell me the G1S-A1 full power of the 8Cell battery, how long it can running on general using like Wi-Fi on, seeking the web etc.
Thank you of your time and kindly reply. -
Thank you of your professional comment that tell me about the ODM, now I learning from you more and give confidence on Asus, Since in Hong Kong, Asus's Motherboard is top in DIY market, just I am little experience on the notebook side.
This time really thank you. -
Hi all,
Thank for the comment, I will go for shop to see the V1S and compare it, but do V1S have the 1680x1050 15.4" Screen?
I had a DELL 6400 with T5600 before of 15.4" that bring the power supply go for work and show my customers the design. DELL also 2.8 KG, added power supply, it is over 3.5 KG I thinking. so the weight for me maybe not is a big problems, but performance and the Screen good or not for me is the most care part.
Thx to all kindly comment.
After on 28th Dec go for shopping compare, and bought, I will tell here what I choose.
Before buy questions for G1S owner! Please give me suggestion
