    Hey All,

I'm not too technologically savvy, but was trying to find the best Asus laptop for <$1000 with the the best resolution and a webcam as preferences aside from the typical memory/HD space, etc...

    Thx!

To be honest, I'd point you towards Dell and HP for more consumer friendly inexpensive notebooks. ASUS doesn't have many under $1300~ notebooks, and the ones that they do have are, well, they're not very impressive to be honest.

I think the best thing you could do is get a barebone and customize it to your liking. What size screen do you want? Are you doing any gaming?

This isn't really for anything out of the ordinary including gaming... I have to be honest, it was a gift for my girlfriend who is smitten with the VX1 lambo, but I don't feel like shelling out that much :).. yes, she loves the look and the resolution of similar computers with 1680 x 1050... but she's honestly just using it to take around travelling and for work... she does like the webcam feature as some are built-in right?

Trying to find a computer with 1680x1050 resolution and around $1000 is a hopeless cause. I have looked extensively. Cheapest one is a $1100 HP from Newegg.com, but everything else about it is so-so. I was able to configure an ASUS S96S for just under $1000 from GenTech, however. Even though it only has the standard WXGA (1280x800) screen, everything else about it is rather nice.
