I want the 15.4 screen, but other then that I'm not sure where to start. Which model has the best chassis? Seems the z96j is the most popular if not the only model available for barebone. Just want to get the most durable and best chassis to start, but I'm having trouble finding options for barbones.

S96J/Z96J: 15.4" widescreen, powerful graphics (ATI X1600), low battery life, medium portability

Z62J: 14" widescreen, fairly weak Nvidia Go 7300 graphics (good enough to run Vista but thats about it), good battery life, quite portable

Z35F: 13.3", highly portable, integrated graphics, good battery life

Z70Va: 15.4", carbon fibre chassis, Pentium M processor

In sum, it simply depends on what you need. If you need a lot of power but not much portability, a Z96J/S96J would be your best bet. If you don't need power but high portability, look at the Z62 or Z35. The Z70Va is quite stylish, but out of date.

Carbon Fibre Chassis? That sounds pretty cool, and strong. Now if it's a babrebone then I should be able to get a new board with a new processor and ditch the poor Pentium M right?

I'm pretty sure the board is non-replaceable...in any case I'm 100% sure that would be far more trouble than its worth. If you are looking for style, I would look to Asus' ensemble line instead. The V6J has a carbon fibre chassis, and the W3J has a very nice and shiny aluminum lid, as well as carbon fibre. Both are very stylish and powerful (and very expensive, $2000 CDN or so.)

the main competition with the 96j

    is i think called z92t

    same gpu, amd x2

basically the same thing, using amd x2.

Costs about 150 more for the barebone. mabe beacuse its newer. doesnt make sense to me at all.

msi 1039, same gpu older amd turion cpu, about 200 more but includes dvd drive.
