I read a thread somewhere on the forum where a person upgraded his G60JX from the i5 to an i7 820qm. I would like to upgrade my system to the 720 or 820qm also. Question is, firstly, is it possible? -- I mean can I simply "plug in" the new cpu. Also, is the upgrade applicable to the Best Buy models?

    Thanks!!

I've seen that post too but never seen a screen shot or anything.
It should work since they use the same socket, saying that in the "old" G60 VX the BB models did not support QUAD's even though the none BB models did.
Did you think about the i7-620M that will work for sure and might be a better match for this laptop.

So is it worth the upgrade?
You see any difference in games?

its upgradeable to the latest cpu. But to upgrade it, you need to disassemble everything. This is best done with the pros.

    That's only in the G73.
The G60JX is very easy to upgrade

Very cool, think I am going to look closely at the 620 and 820 cpu's. The 620 looks good from a temp point, however the 820 is winking at me :)

    Thanks!

Since the G60Jx series is capable of handling a 720QM, I'd think it could just as easily handle the 820QM since both of them has the same 45 watts TDP. The only potential issue I see is that the G60Jx BIOS would not recognize the 820QM, which in that case wouldn't allow your system to even boot.
