Today was the day I was going to pull the trigger on either the Best Buy G73 or the Newegg N71JQ. Both are $1199 and both would have to be partially financed.
I stopped in my local Best Buy this morning to see if they even had a G73 and came upon the G72.
This was the laptop I was wanting to buy originally in the winter but then the g73 and n71 came along and caught my eye.
But they have the G72 for $799 on clearance. They have two left in stock and I could buy it without needing to finance it.
Is the price a VERY good deal or should I stick with my original plan? I'm not getting rid of my desktop which is a phenom x4 965 with 8gb ram and a gtx275.

I'm a firm believer if you can't pay for it in cash then ya don't need it. Only thing that gets financed is the house and the vehicles. And if your asking the question then your probably better off not financing either.

I'm fine financially, I just like taking advantage of 12-18 months on their dime. That being said, I LOVE just paying cash for an item and $799 is in that range that I am comfortable doing it in. After lurking around here learning about the laptops and finding the two I targeted I still couldn't help but think that $799 for a New in Box G72GX-RBB05 was too good to pass up even if it is only dual core with a GTX260m.
So I know that Best Buy has LG and AUO screens for the G73. Anyone know if there is a similar issue with G72 lcd's? -
I just left BB with my new G72. By the time I go back they had already sold the other one so last one went to me!

Good choice.
With computers you will notice something really funny - 9 month old tech is about 50% the cost of the new stuff, but the new stuff performs about 20-30% better.
In other words, you just got a fantastic deal, and the computer only needs to last half as long as most new laptops for you to get your money's worth.
