Hi all,
I was just browsing around BestBuy.com and noticed that they are now carrying the Asus U1F, and they seem to be stocking them in all stores (at least, they are available at the 5 closest stores to me).
Not sure that anyone would want to buy one from BestBuy, but it could be a good opportunity to try one out in person now (if they have them on display).

Best Buy is great. Will they sell Lenovo T61 laptops?
-
It doesn't look like the U1F at BestBuy is particularly a great deal. They are selling it for $1999, but it only has 1GB of RAM and just the 3-cell battery and a 1 year limited warranty.
I compared this to ProPortable.com, for example, who is selling the U1F for $2199, but this includes an extra 6-cell battery, 1.5GB of RAM and the 2 year Asus warranty.
But it is good they are being carried in stores; should give people an opportunity to try it out in person at least. -

That is the bs price. I wonder if that will be censored.
Anyways, that is the retail price and no one pays retail. Best Buy posts the real price next to the retail price and calls it a sale. The coupon price is the real price. NBR members should learn to ignore retail prices.

I know they might discount this in the future (i.e. like the Sony TX, which BestBuy has on sale this week for $2150, off of $2299), but for now they are not discounting it at any level.

Do not worry. When the product arrives it will have an arrival sale. I am not joking, they have these sales for Simpson DVDs.

Sales for new computers (especially $2000 computers) are not the same thing as sales for newly released DVD's (which are common).
It is true that things like new DVD's get a sale on the first week they are out, but that is for a completely different kind of item; in particular because a store like BestBuy wants people to come in to the store to buy items like DVD's in the hopes they will then look around and buy something more expensive.
BestBuy does certainly put some new computers on sale, but those are usually the cheaper consumer models (the desktops and laptops in the $800-1500 range), and the discounting is for a similar reason (get someone to come in and get a deal on a new cheap computer, and hope they buy a bunch of accessories, service plans, etc. that BestBuy makes most of their profit on).
The U1F though is a $2000 high-end laptop, and I wouldn't expect to see any discounts any time soon. Perhaps eventually some discounts like the Sony TX gets from time to time, but that's it. -
Thanks for the heads up Zadillo. It says its in stock in all the Best Buys in my area, I wonder if its on display though? I wonder if they will get the Asus S6Fms?
Maybe they don't have the best prices but just in case I get a nice giftcard, I can use it towards this. I hope its on display, gonna leave the my temple soon and check out the Best Buy right next to me. -
Where does it say Best Buy U1F only comes w/ a 3-cell?
-
i'm sure this has been mentioned...but quite a few asus models can be found on bestbuyforbusiness.com as well as a few thinkpad models.

.

Ohhhh... I hope they put one on display in Burlington...

For what it's worth, I stopped by my local bestbuy today, and they didn't actually have the U1F out. They may or may not put it out, but I guess at least one can pick it up. It also might still be too new.
