I didn't know this and if you didn't either... FYI - My G60Vx has died. I called up Asus and they said the Geek Squad now handles repairs for all Asus machines directly.

    Sweet!

Hate to brake it to ya,but that's bad,GS has many horror stories, and you do not need any certification nor prior knowledge to be charged to repair computers.

Don't the Best Buy models mostly have only 1 year warranty?

Flashing lines and no more posting.

My GPU has died. It is not fixable, so I don't care what Geek Squad will do to it unless they can source a GTX 260 from Asus (doubt it).

I'll most likely get another G60Vx from them, or if I can get a choice, a different laptop from whatever Best Buy has in stock.

This scares me, what temperatures were you getting from you 260 under load in games usually? Did you do any modification to the laptop at all, i.e. did you remove that warranty void if removed sticker? I am pretty much scared to have this laptop now, I changed the cpu to a T9900, and my gpu is hitting crazy high temps. Now I am getting temps between 87-and 96C in game with peeks above 100C.

Should I just sell this laptop on ebay and rebuild my desktop? I sold my desktop for something more mobile that could still handle gaming, but I'm starting to see that no matter the equipment under the hood, they still haven't figured out a way to manage heat.

100C  , you udnerstand that's the boiling point of water right?
no component is going to last 2 years with 100C.

anyways, if you pruchase your laptop with a credit card visa/amex/mastercard -they usually have a warranty that would double the manufacturers warranty.

Yeah, Best Buy strips away the Asus warrantly it gives every lappy sold there a 1 year warranty through the manufacturer by default. Nothing special.

I didn't know GS was handling repairs for the Asus though....that sucks. Trust me, *I* know more about computers than most of the guys at the precinct.

I know some of the Best Buy G50vt models had the two year warranty. Trust me, I'm as surprised as you are. ;)

Wow, they let people have the 2 year warranty? I'm amazed, they strip away any perks like that to make people by the GS BTP warranty. I assume they stil took away the free year of accidental?

My desktop's 8800GT begs to differ. Over two and a half years with that thing, running 105C every time I fire up a Source engine game (TF2, Left 4 Dead, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, etc.), and it's still working just as well as the day I got it. *Knock on wood* :p

    Seriously, that thing's a tank.

Oh dear, I brought a G60 from Best Buy but live in the UK. My GPU runs at 90 degrees when gaming, think it is time to buy a cooler.
I thought the warrenty was international.

careful with geek squad.. I just shipped my wifes hp out to hp to fix Geek squads mistake. First it was fixed by GS but they replaced the keyboard with a grey one when it had chrome. Lappy only 3 mo old. They blamed it on HP..well hp confirmed GS ordered wrong part. Now HP is fixing it and doing it in a faster turn around time. GS quality control must not exist..

Be careful with GS.. Theve messed up more than once by me..now never to get my business again.

It's international, though there is a "US" only warranty. Double check your documentation.

So they fixed it up and had it ready for me yesterday. They said they replaced the GPU.

This is going on the the marketplace shortly for $750 if anyone wanted to call dibs ... WITH the 3 year warranty and apparently very good GeekSquad first year support! ;)
