Hoping to get a 14 or 15" gaming laptop with a VERY good GPU. I understand that I can't get the same one in the 17" bricks. How about the N80 or N81? Anything better than that?
I'll probably end up waiting for Windows 7 to hit retailers. Any new laptops coming out from these guys?

Best is either the GTX 260m in the Asus G51 or the GTX 260m in the Clevo M860TU.
The GTX 260m will also be in the Asus G60 when it releases. -

For a 14", N81's 4650 is the best out there. I think the G60 is slated for a release in September (in UK at least)

actually, the gtx 260 in the g51 is the same card in the g71 (17"). also, if you buy a g51 (and im fairly sure any laptop) at best buy you will get the free upgrade to windows 7 so theres no need to wait. at least any asus and other certain brands.

If you are looking an ANYTHING outside of Asus.
The ALL new MSI GX403 comes with an Nvidia GT130. For Asus go for the N81. -
The G51 has a downclocked 260 M GTX 500/799/1250
The CLEVO M860TU has the full clock speeds 550/950/1375 so technically the 260 M GTX in the CLEVO is better. -

What does the perfomance in 3d Mark look like as opposed to the G51? That seems like a huge difference there.
-
the clocks are actually 550/ 800/1375 in the clevo m860tu because it has a mxm 2.1 slot. it only uses 950 as a stock clock if it has a mxm 3.0 slot. a clevo m860tu with a p8600 (2.40GHz) and stock drivers gets 9757 at 1280x1024 (see 1st pic). a g51 with an overclock to 2.25GHz and stock drivers gets 9554 at 1280x720 (see 2nd pic). keep in mind the resolutions were different.

OK, thanks for pointing that out, every GPU-Z reading I have seen had those clocks on them on the 260 M GTX. My bad
Yo.
Congrats on the 150th post

Just quoting to emphasize that. AFAIK any OEM Vista license bought from now until the release of Vista entitles the buyer to a free W7 upgrade.

except for Vista Basic if I recall

Possibly, I never researched this thing in detail (since I didn't buy a computer after the start of this update program).

more info there - and yes i don't see basic there. -
where can you get the msi gx403?

It is an UPGRADE voucher as I have seen it, not a free 2nd OS. Microsoft would never do that. So I'm holding off until Sept or Oct when the system ships with the fresh OS already on board. So there is a valid reason to wait until the Fall.
Back to the notebooks, the new D1 of n81vp seems to have just received a processor upgrade and the ctrl key is now all the way on the left, which is better. Any other changes or fixes of minor flaws? No Blu-Ray (or is that drive just a waste of time)?
I hope that a notebook in this size range (less than 6lbs) can get even more powerful GPUs (GeForce 9700M GTS, GeForce GTS 150M, GeForce 9800M GS, GeForce 9800M GTS, GeForce GTS 160M or ATI equivalents). The G series is practically a 17 inch book at 7.4 lbs. I know I'm being picky about the weight, but the extra pounds can make a difference over time. -
^ they send a windows 7 disk. yes, they do it to help keep sales until the upgrade happens.
also, none of those are more powerful than the g51's gpu.... -
do you have a source for that key placement change you mentioned?
gentech and xoticpc both either do not have updated pictures or there is no change...
Best GPU in 14 or 15" model
