Hi, I am going to be a college student next year and I have always been into PC gaming. My question is what is the best gaming 15.4 and 17 inch Asus notebook. Also, should I got with 15.4 or 17 inches for college?

Note: Battery life is slightly important to me...

    Thanks!

Yeah it's been really poor on everything after G1/2S last year (My C90S still does almost 1hour and a half so it's good for it too) Dunno if they fixed it in the last ones.

For school definitely take a 15.4''. 17'' is gonna be hard to move everywhere.

How long can you wait? The G50v is right around the corner, and it gets better battery life.

I would stay to shy away from the Asus. Dell 1530, Sager, or Lenovo is what I would buy.

ASUS actually has very decent gaming machines with good pricing. You should look into G50v, which should hit Best Buy in two weeks or so.

Any of them with an 8700M GT will all be practically the same, the rest is all limited to looks. You should really fill out the "what notebook shoulf I buy? FAQ" instead of limiting yourself to Asus, there's a lot more (and better) notebooks out there.

I would say G50v or G71, which are set to debut in about 2 weeks.

G50v is within the performance envelope of Gateway's 6860FX.

The best (performance-wise) 15.4" Asus gaming laptop is currently the G1S, however many G1S's have heat issues due to improper heat management.

The best (performance-wise) 17" Asus gaming laptop is the G70 if available and the G2SG if the G70 isn't available.

Get the Alienware m15x with an extra SmartBay battery and an 8800M GTX, it'll be much faster than any other 15" and have the best battery life/performance ratio. Definitely look into it. All of the problems Alienware used to have with it are pretty much all fixed.

Actually, the C90 is the same as a G1S but it also supports desktop processors which gives it the edge in performance.

This is only if the C90s has the 256mb GDDR3 8600m GT MXM II graphics card. The 512mb DDR2 8600m GT the C90s comes with performs worse than the Asus G1S's included 256mb GDDR3 8600m GT.

Well, Alienware does charge way too much for RAM/CPU/HDD upgrade compared to the price you can get them on the net.

I swear this website should be called dellnotebookreview.com huge Dell bias on this website. They even have a little coupons tab up top.....Anyways G50v is due to hit Best Buy very soon and packs a pretty nice punch and like someone said earlier is very comparable to the Gateway 17" gaming laptop at Best Buy. It should be at a very competitive price as well....plus it looks darn cool :)

The 9700M GT is still a G96. G94 chips start at 9700M GTS. 9700M GT is still 128bits/32 shaders

I play a few of the games you mentioned (WoW, BF2) and I have no issues whatsoever. Seriously 2-5 hours of battery life? I have never seen a gaming laptop get more than an hour and a half playing a game that actually uses the GPU. I have used my laptop For checking my Auction house items, and cleaning out my bags without a battery, but I wouldn't rely on its battery power for even a simple RFC noob run.

I have the ASUS M50 and I love it. Only issues I had with it, (video Driver crash) were solved by installing 175.80(I think, Don't have laptop with me at work) drivers.

Yeah, If I turn it on performance, which I forget to do sometimes, I can run 60 FPS in Shat. I don't know what the frame rate is for BF2, but I have no hiccups while playing, but you have to add in the normal line to make it go widescreen. Not sure why EA didn't incorperate that option, but it is supposedly the same way for BF2142.

Because it wouldn't be fair in multiplayer for those not having a widescreen blablabla

$2500 is more than enough to get a great rig with an 8800M GTX.
