Samsung has a terrific SSD for laptops (1.8" profile) and looks like a good unit. Is it compatible with the Asus brand laptops (I didn't find anything substantial via google) and if not, what SSD drives would you recommend for use?
Thanks much!!

I'm a big proponent of OCZ's Vertex line, great performance. Make sure you have a drive jumper though to flash to the latest firmware.

if your laptop takes 2.5" drives you'll need to buy an adapter for the samsung ssd.

may be you could try intel ssd. These are pretty hot stuffs!!! But these are at 2.5".

As seen in my thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=370946 two OCZ Solids cap the read speeds of the controller but the Vertex will give better writes.
Ideally I think one could get a single Vertex for the OS and use a normal HDD for storage. Or if budget willing get two Vertex, but I don't think reads even in RAID0 would go much above 220. -
read a bunch of great reviews on this ssd

If you want the best SSD, your only choice are SLC SSDs such as the Intel X25-E as portlandisawesome suggested. SLCs have greater durability, endurance and read/write speeds compared to their MLC counterparts. Here's a list of the 2.5" SATA SLC SSDs currently selling on newegg:

Super Talent has written a nice report regarding the differences between SLC Vs. MLC which might be worth reading for anyone planning on purchasing a SSD hard drive.

The Titan series by G.Skill offers competitive performance at a competitive price. You can laugh, but I have one in my Eee PC 900HA. I got 30% off so I'm not overly concerned about how wasteful it is putting such a nice SSD in such a lousy bottlenecking system

I did a tiny review at the eeeuser.com forums:
