Can anyone tell which Asus model has the best speaker sound? I currently have an Asus w5f and I am disappointed with the sound quality. Thanks.

The W2 I would only assume, perhaps the W1 as well.

I believe the W2 has a subwoofer in it, and its a media type laptop. The V6 also has pretty decent sound quality better than most laptops (espcailly in its class) and certainly better than others I have owned.

The M6 blows away the V6 in sound quality (and in video quality as well).

I don't suppose M6 is an option, since it's rather old, but anyway, it was worth mentioning. :)

Not sure about that for me, The V6va was much much louder then the Z70va I had.

I don't mean necessarily louder, I think they're equally loud, but better quality. For instance in headphones, when I switch from the M6Ne from the V6J, I'm always under the impression that someone has punctured the headphone speaker membranes :D

On the other hand the topic is about speaker quality... so I'm a bit offtopic with this point of view.

I think it's much more difficult to differentiate sound quality from speaker sound than from headphone sound. From speakers most laptops sound equal(ly cr__py).

True, the V6 speakers are somewhat iffy, but I found em loud and clear, better then the Z70va's, which at certain levels(70%+) had static.

Another weird thing is, my speakers now have some sort of 'echo', no idea why...

I'd think its software but after tinkering around, no change...

Don't hit me on the head for the obvious question, but are you sure your microphone is turned off? Otherwise it's almost certainly that.

    Um......Maybe?

Though, I do use the mic(I use vent to chat with friends, since we live everywhere scattered due to University) when my headset isn't around.

Best sounding Asus = W2J FTW!
    4 speakers with a subwoofer.
Very rich sound quality for a notebook.
It's one of the reasons I opted for this over a smaller model.

The W2, without a doubt... not only does it have the largest speakers on board, but the subwoofer helps give depth to the on board audio.

Coriolis, I think what the other guy (too lazy to click "back" to see who) was talking about was "muting" the microphone. Just check the "mute" box and no sounds from the microphone will be played over the speakers. If you do a chat or use a program that records from the microphone it will still work.

I found this out a while ago, it's really quite useful. Take for example my external sound card. In my dorm we have one set of speakers (400W of mine =D). If I want I could connect an audio cable from my roomie's to the "Line In" and uncheck "mute" on "Line-In" to directly patch that signal through to the output.

laptops are not made to sound good in general I imagine that asus suposes you will use earphones or get some speakers. In general though, the bigger the laptop the better the sound.
