Just like the thread title says, looking to future proof this machine as best as I can. Is there any reason, bios or chipset related to prevent me from going quad core? Am I best off just going with the t9900 for general computing and medium duty gaming? Please sound off, give me your opinions, not just a few of us are out here trying to extend the life of our older workhorse laptops for another couple of months to a year.

    Hello and Welcome to NBR!

From what i have heard, somone Here had tried the Quad in that model Seems it has some type of hardware limitation? but no go.
But the T9900 is the best core 2 duo. :)

I have the Extreme X9100 in this maching is a beast that In theory should work also? Aprox $300 cpu used..
I like it better than the Q9000 though the QX9300 is the Best if you could accept the quad..

I have the G72GX-RBBX09 And came with Q9000 Quad

Everything I've seen says T9900 is the best but plenty have found less expensive T9600s. Doesn't seem to make much difference performance-wise if you search the Internet for info. GPU seems to be the deciding factor for games.

    Cheers,

I thought I'd read about a hardware limitation with the quad cores too, but now I can't seem to find that thread here or anywhere else on the web, my google skills have failed me.

It was somwhere in the g72gx owners lounge.

Either way i think this is a great machine.
i have swapped the quad q9000 to the dual core x9100 and back again,
    i've Done benchmarks ETC,
    the X9100 on 3dmarrk 06 12,000 the quad q9000 10,000ish

I play alot of COD4 and it Runs good w/ the Quad but Silky Smooth with the
    X9100 hands down Best.

For Crysis Well The Quad Should perform better, It just depends what you wannt to do with it.

At the time that i bought this, it was all the rage, but now the ASUSG73 would be the best performance..
but the 05 is much cheaper...
