What are in you opinion the best built, that will last at least 3 years, ASUS notebooks?
-
I mean like the business class from other manufacurers.
-
Well the best built is undoubtedly the VX2, but if you can pay the price.
The second place IMO goes to V1 -
People always say the discontinued ones are built the best though like the V6 or W3
-
Both had the heat problem and hence IMO were discontinued .
-
What advantages does the VX2 offer over the V1 in terms of build anyway?
I saw some kind of leather on the palm rest...it makes it look nice (sort of), but does that actually do anything for build durability?
Was there anything else different? (I'm not talking about the wheel on the bottom or the logo or the "vroom vroom" sound or anything...just build).
BTW, is there a way to disable that sound on startup? I assume it's not simply a different wav file substituted for the Windows startup wav. -
The VX2 is lighter [the mobo is almost the Same the] the VX2 also seems to be stronger.
AFAIK the voices can be changed, though some people would kill [literary] to have their laptops make that noise. -
-
About the "voices": there's probably a BIOS option to disable it. -
I hope ASUS make more cheap the price, ^_^ because i buy my G1s A1 (my first Notebook) is expensive.
-
Actually, I hope the asus will make higher quality notebooks cause the quality has dropped lately. Even if the prices stay the same or climb a little bit.
But that's just me. -
W1, W2, W3.. that's the best
-
C90s,it will last forever..
if you upgrade it at least 2years once -
Best Built in performace is Asus Lamborghini Series

lambo is not any better performer then v1jp.
people have differentr oppinions about the term quality
to me it means style AND reliability
W3j offered both better then most other asus manufactured in the past 3 years. -
I'd say just about anything V series or VX series is the best Asus has to offer regarding build quality. Many W series are also quite good, but not all (based on what I've read in the forums, at least)
-
-
The better GPU in the VX2 does make it attractive though... I wish they'd just release a version of the VX2 without the rest of the aesthetic odds and ends--sort of like a V1 with a Go7700 (or a 8700M for the refresh).
Speaking of build quality, were there any noticeable improvements in build quality for the SR refreshes over the pre-SR models (e.g. on the G1S over the G1)? -
And how about G series...?
I think this is very good job from ASUS
I choice notebook for now because i see this i one PC fair,
^_^ -
F < A < G < S ? R ? W < V < VX -
you're still going to have to convince me that adding leather to the chassis improves build quality beyond making it look better.
Are there any non-aesthetic definite build improvements from the VX2 to the V1? According to the specs, they both should weigh the same. -
Honestly I don't know
And moreover I don't really think so.
So probably it should be V ? VX at the end of the line, agreed. -
G series actually have balance power. ^^

Hey that's not bad. Let's hope all the future refreshes lose a little weight too.
-
So, would you say that the V1 and the VX series (except the leather) are the best built from asus in terms of chasis, quality and durability?
And from what I have read the W series are next in order? -
i have to say that my W2J is nice and seems well built even though it was expensive
-
-
Personally, I think this is the case with W3 vs. V1, due to the rather flimsy top of the V1 vs. the brushed aluminum of the W3. On the other hand, the W3 has the plastic bottom.... Then again, protecting the screen is probably more important than protecting the underside since it's more exposed to damage.
So besides saying W < V, in the details things are pretty much subjective. -
The Asus W1jb has a 15.4'' screen

Sorry, you're right
But I've never seen that for sale at any of the NA Asus retailers.
The GPU leaves something to be desired though - it wouldn't meet your requirements of Go7700/DX10 equivalent or better. -
Ohh, ok
Actually my requirements have changed, I'm thinking of spending less money on the laptop that I'm going to buy so I have decided that I want a GPU ranging from Go 7300 - X1350 to at most Go 8600 - X2600.What would you suggest?
You are right, I haven't seen the W1Jb at any resellers, I wonder why! -
I think that the late-2005 models when the Ensemble and BTO lines were based on the same chassis had the best build quality. M5/Z33, W3/Z63, etc. Everything else has been downhill from there, especially since they have spun off the BTO line into ASMobile.
-
How do you think the A-series compares in build quality to other brands in the same category? More specifically, the Lenovo T61 and Dell 6400? Thanks.
-
(sorry, gross exaggeration, but you get the idea).
I doubt even the Asus V series can seriously compare to the Lenovo T series in terms of durability and build quality--see mysticgolem's review and the poll in this forum. -
Off-topic, but take a look at the new MBP that just came out
I wouldn't mind if Asus came out with something like that (I guess the V1 is close). It's rumored to have LED backlights too... too bad it's a mac -

The G2 is built like a tank. Lid is extemely stiff and closes with solid clicks (dual clamps) and theres no movement of lid once closed.
Fit and finish is superb with no gaps from one fabbed panel to another.
Pressing on all corner keys on the keyboard (Esc, Del, Ctrl, ->) results to no flex whatsoever.
Like i said, the G2 is a tank. When more and more people get the G2S in their hands ill be surprised if they dont agree with everything ive said here
Best built ASUS
