    Hi,

I received my c90s on last Wednesday, now I'm trying to get most out of it.
    C6600, 2GB, 160GB 5400rpm, Geforce 8600GT w/ 512MB GDDR2. Bios 0801 installed.

I installed Vista Ultimate 32bit, and drivers from disk. Everything working well, ran 3dmark06 with 1280x1024 in overclock mode, got 3439 points. Is this good or bad? Computer did not freeze at all.

Then i went to laptopvideo2go, and installed nVIDIA ForceWare X 163.74 for Windows Vista 32bit with modded inf. After this, computer became unstable, now when entering overclock mode, computer freezes. In gaming mode it's running.

My question is, what is the best driver for speed and stability?

    Thanks,

    JoneD

Im using the "bioshock" drivers the 163.44 and they seem flawless and have great performance.

This is not the first report of issues with the new drivers. I think it must be compatability issues between the core driver code and the turbo vga drivers. I would uninstall the asus enchanced turbo vga driver and see if that fixes it.

158.xx works fine, but you loose PureVideo HD, if you care

163.71 are great drivers. Best performance I've had so far.

163.71 drivers don't allow overclock, do they? I had them and i couldn't overclock, im on 163.74 now grabbed from LV2Go, no overclock also but honestly the performance seems worst, but it just may be my impression

Im not a big gamer anyway but underclocking is usefull to save battery

The 74s are notoriously bad, nvidia even pulled them down. None of the 160 series allow overclocking though some people "claimed" they have. You can overclock but you'll have to mod your vga bios.

not since the 158's was there native overclocking I dont belive. Thats also why I think the turbo vga drivers maybe causing issues because thats what they do. They overclock the card.

So you have asus driver trying to overclock, and nvidias saying no. The conflict could be causing the stability issues I am hearing about.

Hmm, so you are suggesting to use 163.71 and remove turbo vga drivers?
So no overclocking available then? Would I get better results with this, when compared to the VGA drivers coming with ASUS DVD + overclock mode, which gave me over 3400 points in 3dmark06 1280x1024.

Here's another problem I currently have: after playing with rivatuner overclocking and 163.74 drivers, I removed drivers and installed the ones from ASUS disc. Before I could run 3dmark06 in overclock mode, no problems, but now it crashes even in gaming mode. GPU is running @ 85 degrees celcius idle. Does rivatuner overclock settings stay on? Where can I see reliable readings on GPU and memory clocks? How to restore defaults?

    There's something wrong now, definitely...

    Thanks!

you can read as far as i know those readings with nvidia monitor, regarding the crashing, maybe rivatuner has left some leftovers in windows registry, so i should install rivatuner again, revert back the clock speeds to the original ones 475 / 400 and then unistall rivatuner and finally install whatever driver you currently think it's best

im using 101.17 for my GeForce 8600M GT.
    Is that good enough?

I see you guys are using the 8 series nvidia drivers.
Does it work with the mobile cards?
I dont really plan on overclocking so thats no a problem.

I am using those save drivers....(ASUS supplied ones)..and with the 8600MGT DDR3 version that is all i got to work well...ANY other drivers cripple the cards performance immensely.

Exactly Scotty...that's my experience...I'm using stock drivers now again with the gddr3 card. I get 3657 3dmark06 normal mode, default 3dmark settings. They drop with 163.44, but I didn't trying uninstalling the Turbo Enhanced Vga driver first.

    Ok, here's an update:

I used rivatuner to set GPU core to 475 and GPU mem to 400.
Then I uninstalled rivatuner. Now I have nvidia drivers from asus c90s support page installed. When I set to overclock mode, and monitor with ntune, GPU goes to 500 and mem to 450. When i set to power saving, GPU=129 and GPU mem=229. And when I go to standard mode, core =500 and mem=450.

Is this correct? Shouldn't standard be 475/400 then?

Core is running at 86 degrees celcius idle, with core=500 and mem=450.

The Zoid what OS are you using?
Also what brand ram are you using exactly?
Are you having any problems with the AC power pluged in/out or anything like that?
I want to send back my Crucial ram for some more compatible ram to go with my C90, but just dont know what to get.

    Hay!

I had problems with graphic drivers too.. Thing is I used modded xp install and the default asus drivers didn't work without crashing in games.. A clean install and the newest drivers from laptop2go fixed the problems and now everything seems to work flawlessly.. so far ;)

This even improved my temperatures a bit!

You might have installed the TURBOGEAR enhanced VGA driver. This driver overclocks the GPU to 500/450. It came with the ASUS support CD.

Riva turner says mine run at 513 on the core, even on default 475.

So for the temperature, we are on the same boat.... This suck!

I am using Vista HP 32 now on the C90. I had a copy of Ultimate 64 but couldn't install because it was an upgrade version, and I had no OS other than OEM. MS is refunding me the Ultimate 64 even though I bought it back in March and used it on another computer. Ram, I don't know....whatever Gentech said was 'Asus Certified'. I'll look next time I crack it open. My Lapcool2 has brought down temps from 81 idle (gpu) to 76-77. I've seen it go to 93 gaming, but I haven't done any hours on end gaming yet due to work.

Ah well don't think there is an official list from Asus. Sorry don't know your story. Did you already purcahse your c90? If not then you should let the vendor take care of compatible ram.

Check ASUS website and search thru their forums. But i believe this would be of no use, since they havent specified a 2gbx1pc compatible RAM brand. And, even if they have specified the brand, there are no guarantees that it would work. Try to follow Forerunner's advice, have ur reseller put it in for you and make sure they check it on battery power

Im having some problems with the booting and ac power and all that, but nothing major. Im using 2x1gb Crucial 667 ram.
