I am looking to have one set of drivers that work well for me. I have tried about 4 since purchase and each and everyone of them has had an issue with the requirements I am looking for from driver (really, it is just 4 criteria to meet...)

    1) Gaming performance: Obviously I want drivers that perform well in games, as this is a primary gaming laptop. I want good performance, if not the best.

    2) Powermizer: I simply NEED drivers that have this feature. With powermizer my idle temps get as low as 49°C, without them the laptop runs hot to the touch and about 70°C idle (because it works at 100% all the time)

    3) HDMI out: I use this feature a lot with my TV, and I wish to have good playback capability.

    4) My so loved brightness controls!: Unlike what I though, it seems that the brightness controls don't work with all drivers.

    What drivers have I tested?
    Stock, Dox 185.85, 186.24, 186.30

    Criteria met by the drivers:

Stock! It meets with 1, 2 and 3.
    Dox 185.85 meets with 1, 2 and 4.
    186.24 meets with 1, 3 and 4.
    186.3 meets with 1, 2 and 3.

As you can see, quite to my dismay, none of the drivers fullfil my desired criteria. It is puzzling because with my old G50 I was able to use so many different drivers and hardly had any issues.

What other drivers are out there, tested, that work with the desired criteria? I need good stable drivers that meet all 4 criteria.

Hey man, last night I was searching for drivers, since I been experimenting, and I found a very recent thread (2 days old) in which DOX said the best drivers right now were probably the 186.03. I didn't search for the drivers last night, but I guess you could give them a try

Hey renegg thanks for the support, I was feeling lonely already! :p I know I bother this board so much but I want the best out of my machine!

I will look into the 186.03 and try them out. Last night I tried those 190.38 and all thw 190 drivers, and some 186.30++ drivers and none worked well. The 190.38 just didn't install :(

I am suspecting the issue is this new 260M GTX, that maybe it is a bit different than standard VGA so it has some problems with the drivers.

So far, the best performing, features etc has been Dox 185.85, but sadly the HDMI out lacks stability, and has crashed several times. I will try the 186.03 though, thanks.

This is the tool that I use to use with my Vaio with Hdmi out and it should meet all your needs its called DriverHeaven Nvidia Mobility Modder. Just follow the directions on the site then download the lastest desktop drivers from Nvidia.
    Here's the link: http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php

Hey ryzeki, just wondering which drivers you ended up putting in the G51, I tried the 186.03 form the nvidia page, and the readme said it supported the gtx 260m, but I couldn't manage to install them, I always got an error telling me that I didn't have windows vista 64 neither 32 bits, I don't know why it gave me that error I download them two times just in case I made a mistake but no mistake. So I ended back with dox drivers. Actually I will try the mobility modder to see if the 190 desktop drivers give any improvement over the dox ones.
