Figure it's somewhere on here, but hard to sift through everything.

BTW, what Asus would match what I'm looking for

    15'4 screen (at least 1440x900)
    2gb+ ram
    slot load drive if possible
    webcam + leather if possible

    Thanks.

Asus doesn't offer any 15" notebooks with the leather palm rest nor a slot load optical drive in any of their notebooks.
However, take a look at the Asus M50Sv-A1 or the G1Sn-A1. These are good candidates for a 15".

Newegg is great for buying PC parts and accessories, but when it comes to selling Asus laptops, it can't touch reputable US Asus resellers in terms of speed and CS ;)

They are a lot cheaper than Dells, not sure if I want to make the leap. Just had an Acer and it sucked

Asus is in another league compared to Acer. But like with every computer company, you can avoid the "budget" notebooks and opt for the multimedia, gaming, or business line for better build quality.

    Correct.

W1 has been EOL and gone for at least a couple of years.

ebay now really does not have great deals on new notebooks unless they fell off the truck. to make matters worse the overseas buyers are buying up everything and anything. ebay global sales increased 27% in q2 while US sales fell sharply. Its just not the place for new laptops in the states.

Hello all, I'm trying to purchase an Asus M50-SvA1, from a reputable seller, but this thing is nowhere to be found online. Well, the places I've found that sell it won't let me configure the machine :(. Any suggestions?

The M50vm is the replacement for the M50sv. The M50vm is quite nice and has an upgraded processor and video card compared to the sv. Physically they are almost identical (The sv has a combo esata/usb while the sm has them separate)

Best place to buy an Asus notebook is GentechPC. The model I wanted went OOS just after ordering from Gentech, so I bought mine from Newegg, but the CS that Ken (the GentechPC guy) provided was excellent.

I like the idea of buying from resellers especially some of the folks that are so helpful on this forum - some will give an additional 3% off if you don't use a credit card - that said - I do like some of the no interest for 6 months deals that newegg offers on Asus models - I already buy alot from newegg and have been very pleased - I am holding out for the C1 M70vM model which I understand will come out in August.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm gonna go for the M50vm-a1. GenTechpc has it on stock so I think I'm going to purchase it from them. Someone mentioned a guy named Ken (I've read somewhere else that his CS is great), is there anyway to make sure I deal with directly when purchasing my laptop from GenTechpc? Let me know...

Just put his name in the Comments section when you make your purchase if anything. I've dealt with him directly via email, he's very nice and helpful :)

Call GenTechPC and ask for Ken. That's what I did :) Gentech's number is (800) 990-7945.
