Question as title. I'm looking at the G73JH.

Seeing that the G73 is £1729.60 w/ VAT, I would be extremely hesitant to purchase it at that price knowing it is $1000 USD cheaper if purchased from a reputable US reseller. With the $1000 USD saved, you might as well purchase a roundtrip ticket to the US and pick up your laptop there. ;)

Heh indeed, or just order it and pay customs fees.

Also note that there are some negative reviews floating around about the quality of ASUS support in the UK. See e.g., my thread "A Survey of..." (you can find it in the Info Booth I think) which is quite old -- so things may have changed in the meantime -- but maybe still worth considering.

We do get rather screwed with their prices, don't we? It's like when A&F opened their shop in London and simply slapped a £ sign in front of the prices instead of converting the $ value, making us pay twice as much. Banana Republic did that as well. Does that make Asus a crappy fashion brand?

My advice: book a flight to the states, go with an empty suitcase and do some shopping while having a holiday.

Honestly, I value my own time spent doing that higher than saving $1000.

Thanks for the replies - but I've decided to not bother in the end. Two DTR's are enough at home and any more would result in the 'machine creep' I'm trying to avoid now - and the 5870 isn't a humongous leap over the 3800M.
