I like the UL30A I bought last month, but reality has set in. I need the (occasional) access to read/burn CDs and read DVDs.
I've searched for reviews, etc., but came up pretty empty.
I'd be interested in anyone's experience, what they bought, how it works, issues, etc.
One of my concerns is that all of the drives I see on Amazon, etc. don't list Windows 7 as a supported operating system.

    Thanks as always.

If it's USB based, it'll be supported by Windows 7. These kind of things are usually pretty standard stuff.

If your worried, look for the ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U it's an slim drive and comes with a stand too. Comes in both black and white.

Most hardware listed today was released before Win 7 so cannot claim it is supported, but not to worry, it will be; the USB2 interface is generic. External DVD/CD drives are almost a commodity today; I use an Lite-On but any reputable major brand will probably work fine. Be sure to buy a drive that includes a external power supply or specifically guarantees it will be able to burn disks on USB power; aside from that I'd say just let price, size and weight be your guide.
