I'm ready to bite the bullet again on a stupid replacement battery for my v1jp. I currently get all of about 3 minutes of usage on battery. I've got couple of questions:

    1. Is there a fix for the rapid degradation of batteries on this unit?
    2. Where is the best place to get a replacement battery? There are several on ebay for around $50, but they seem to be 4400 mA whereas the original is 5200 mA.

This has been a phenomenal laptop with the exception of the battery issue, so it is a little frustrating. I've been contemplating a replacement, but I am finding it hard to find anything new that I think is substantially better than the v1jp.

Seeing how the whole battery issue was finnicky, I wouldn't buy third-party unless there were some fantastic reviews about them working perfectly.

The old, original main battery I had had been losing capacity each time it was discharged to less than 40%. When it was still under the warranty, I had it RMAed and they had sent a good, working one that didn't drop out like that. Not sure if it's really a question of "fixed" or whether it's luck at getting a working one, though.

That's why I came here to see what others had done. $132 is an awful lot o money for a battery that only last 6 months to a year.

I ran a calibration on the battery tonight, and now I am getting about 25 minutes of battery time. It shows 99% charge, and then goes to sleep. What a mess!

Has anybody tried one of the 4400 mA ones from eBay?

Maybe you could try calling the ASUS eStore to find out how old are the batteries they have. If they are relatively new, you could assume they are a newer batch and will behave like AlexF's battery... But like you say, 130 USD is not very little money so think about it well...
