So i think i'm going to settle for a v6va - i wish i could find a lappy with a screen nearly as good looking in widescreen and a better vid card - i considered the acer-8204, but its not as high of quality - any asus stuff in the works that could fit that bill? (~15.4", good scrreen, quick vid card)
Which reseller of asus uses the best parts and has good service?

v6va is ensemble, so unless you want a reseller to add stuff, its a set model.

... you're on another level......... you have to know a little more about the laptop before you decide on it and knowing that ensemble models come in only one configuration should have been step one.
August is the earliest chance that a 15.4" varient of the V series would even remotely come around. There hasn't been anything more than chatter at the highest levels and besides the fact that it's common knowledge and obvious that Asus would expand the slim, powerful and... popular V line was never any doubt... But right now all I can tell you is that there's a reason the W1j only has about a 15% chance of coming back to the states....... and the only reason it won't will be if something thinner and lighter were ready for release. Right now the deadline Asus US has set for themselves to bring in the W1j is the begining of July...... If they bring it, it means a widescreen varient of the V6 is still many, many months away...... if they decide then NOT to bring it in, we should expect a notebook that's a mix of the V6 and the W1 sometime before the end of August.....We're talking more than six months out and six months is a lifetime in this industry.... it's a pipe dream at best right now...... but sometime before the end of the year there is no doubt we'll see the svelte lines of the V6 migrating into new models.... afterall - the "V" series just began with the "6" model (for some reason)...... but other models will surely follow.....
Consider the W1 which came out in June of 2004..... in 2005 we had the W2 / W3 / W5 ..... we're going to see more out of the V series for sure..... but I think for most people it'll be their "next" computer after whatever they buy this year...... unless you can wait on rumors. -
www.proportable.com and www.geared2play.com are two of the best ASUS resellers. There's also www.c9tech.com and www.istnc.com. PROPortable, Geared2Play, and C9Tech are all active on this board, just look around. (EDIT: Heh, look above
)
You won't find a better screen than the V6Va - just the way it is. As for video cards, the W3j coming out in March has a x1600 (check PROPortable's news sticky).
Right now there is the Z70va, good screen for a 15.4", but it is matte (if that matter to you...). The Z70va also only has a x700. -
The ones mentioned by jleyba are great choices!
some others that have high ratings are www.powernotebooks.com, star tech pc, www.xmeld.com and www.rawpowerpc.com.
the latter two are also active on this board, but tend to focus more on MSI. -

... that doesn't get anyone brownie points.....
-
Where's my brownie point?
:asus: -
You almost have to purchase from ProPortable... Justin spends so much time on this board helping people and providing info, I sometimes forget he has a company to run
-
I think about V6Va too. ProPortable, do you still have it?

.... we still have them as long as they're still on the site.....

Well as of close of business this week, we were behind by a day with all the promotions on the some of the other models... and processing takes a couples days.... I'd say you could have it by the end of the week - but that's really up to sales and how busy they are from the weekend, and so on... but not long..... that's really a question for them though, but I'm usually right.
Every shipment we've ever sent out will require and adult signature at your address, period - for your saftey and security as much as ours. -
Question, does the Built-on v6va come with IPS? Or is it only a handful of the Ensembles? I'm really tempted to get a v6va from you Justin but I want to get it with a 2ghz processor and 7200 rpm harddrive already in it.

You're right, I guess I should clarify. I was looking at what agearnotebook.com advertises as the V6VA-S. From what I understand, it's basically a V6VA that I can customize.

Anyone know if that notebook comes with IPS? Thanks -
It should, but you're better off asking them instead
-
Yeah...it should - they're just changing the internals... not the LCD screen.
But like Coriolis said, ask them just to make sure.
