Gday guys, I'm planning on buying a SSD for my Asus N61JA and would like some suggestions on how to go about getting my laptop up and running after putting it in.

When I first started it up I created the back up discs or whatever they are, and I have all the original discs. What's the easiest way to reinstall? Should I just whack my SDD in, and recover from the discs? Image my HDD to my SSD?

    Cheers guys.

Yes...simple as that. I would only rely on backups for data however and do a fresh OS install on the ssd to make sure it is up to par and not being held back by any old registry settings. Check out a few optimization guides that will help you with keeping your ssd fine tuned and allowing you to get as much extra space from the drive as possible. Maybe also get Crystal Disk Mark and post a score so we can confirm all is well for your installation.

Except the laptop didnt come with an OS disc. I can use one that I've got, but it's a bit dodgy and not 100% sure if it'll work.

Use the links in the Legal Windows Downloads thread to get the right version of Windows, and do a clean install using the product key on the sticker on your laptop. Also helps to download all of your drivers first and burn them to a CD.

Shrink your main partition to the size or less then the new ssd (or not if doing file mirror only and not partition)
Use external case or connection for ssd
Simple mirror copy the partition either from live os or from boot cd/flash
Replace hdd sdd and you done.

There are free/trial/payed softwares to do it.

If it's an oem windows install that won't work since need the certificate file from the old os ..
