I have a 6 month old ul30vt (love it, best laptop i have had so far, If you are in doubt, get a thin 13 inch). Recently, the fan has started making a lot more noise than usual. My room is fairly dusty unfortunately, so i was wondering if there is an easy way to clean out the major fan.

Ive looked into opening my laptop up, but I'm not totally comfortable with completely opening this laptop up/separating the case seam with a screwdriver, as the disassemble for this laptop is way more complicated than it was with my old g50.

how do you remove internal dust?

You may use compressed air (aka canned air). You can buy them in computer stores for reasonable price.

Remove the keyboard, the fan is in the top left corner, use canned air and clean it out. Use a pen or finger to hold the fan blade in place so that it doesn't spit dust all over the inside of your computer and to keep it from damaging the system.

    See: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/484260-asus-ul30vt-notebook-disassembly-guide.html

If the fan is making grinding noises you may want to get the fan replaced if you are under warranty. If you are out of warranty you can take the fan assembly apart and lubricate it, and it should be much quieter, unless a bearing is totally worn in which case it'll still make some sound.

May cause static which will kill your machine in milli-seconds. Canned air is way more secure.

I guess I didn't realize it. Thanks ramgen for the info. But I suppose cleaning only fan and keyboard with vacuum cleaner won't do no harm or am I wrong again?

Keyboard is safe. No need to worry on that. However unless you completely remove out the fan before cleaning it with vacuum I would be extremely cautious. Fan sits next to lots of static-sensitive circuitry.

Vacuum can also pull a component off or tear rip something, that said so can compressed air, use carefully and don't go over board. Another thing is 6 months shouldn't be long enough to have a huge amount of dust build up that its effecting your system already, you did say your room is dusty so that may be the case, but its generally after a year you should concider a clean.
