No idea, I think they just put up the wrong specs, or BB requested a custom unit from Taiwan. I'm thinking the former.
-
Why not get it from Gentechpc they allow you to customize your ram and gives you the GeForce 8600M GT(in case bestbuy did receive its own order of G2's).
-
Considering that financing options may be needed for some, BB may be the only option.
-
oh oh, sad to say it looks like BB has customized their own version of the G2S
I bet the 1 yr warranty is with BB's own service facility and not with asus. Someone should call BB is US and queery that info.
I will presume BB not only got their license to retail Asus notebooks but they also got licensed to be an authorized repair facility for the notebooks. sad!
FutureShop abused Sony here in Canada with simular marketing of lower end DVD players a few yrs back. A lot of peeved off customers ill tell ya -
ah... good point coriolis didn't think of that
-
I heard that BB also removes the gaming mouse and carrying bag from the deal. Any truth to this?

just as a note on the service plans, definatly buy one of the "accidental" ones. basically it will cover anything from impacts to spills, so at the end of 2 years when you are bored with your laptop just toss it down a flight of concrete steps and bring it to a best buy they will give you a gift card for what you paid plus tax.( i work at a best buy and have seen extremly mangled laptops covered) o and the whole model numbers being different for best buy is quite common actually, most notebooks that you see at a best buy will be extremely similar to those you see elsewhere but will have slightly different specs and a different model number.

I looked at Gentechpc, the very last line in ordering/customizing says something to the effect of "I understand this is not returnable". Do they give even a 30 day satisfaction guarantee? I like the idea the BB offers an accident policy. I have no intentions of harming the G2S, but things happen.

Unfortunately, such dealers simply can't afford such a service.
Think about it this way, you order a customized notebook, but then you return it. You aren't charged anything but to them, hours of manual labour, shipping AND they now have an opened notebook(which they can't sell as new), so they take a big hit. -
I understand some may require the financing options provided by BB, but please do not buy such a large purchase form them. I recently advised some friends on what notebook to purchase and by the time they left BB they payed several 100 dollars more for useless software and gimmick warranties. I know that being able to contact the dealer I used, GenTechPC, over the forums proved to be an invaluable source of info and support.

My problem is I haven't physically seen any of the laptops I've been considering. What if I get it and I don't like the quality or the screen's resolution is too high for my old eyes? I presume that if it runs far too hot in the first month that's covered in a guarantee?

If I recall, BTOTech offers a 15 day satisfaction guarantee, perhaps check out their site.
Bestbuy version of G2S?
