guys asus does not make barebones any more. this is a fact. they have discontinued all production even to the verified by intel channel. the c90p came out in limited quantity only because it was already in the works last year. Do not expect them to redeem the bareboone line. the c90s warranty for the most part is now expired. few people purchased extended warranties and asus has no will or reason to continue support for this dead horse.
I have said this since before the c90s came out but people turned out in heards because every other vendors said "buy this dead horse because the vga will be upgradeable". In truth this is actually the only thing they can do now. Make some vga card that they do not have to warranty which will inevatably cause even more issues with this poorly tested and poorly assured laptop -
Meh, in the process of selling my C90S right now. No way I'll have sold it before Friday anyways so lets see if there is anything.
I really don't mind either way. If they do finally give us some upgrades, cool; if they don't I can get another notebook (with better graphics) without a loosing any money. -
There's nothing wrong with a little excitement for a laptop people have stuck with through all the BS right? -
-
Oh well, was hoping.

C90 was still a good machine, I look at my G50V and think quite often that the C90 was better for me.
The screen was better, its the best screen I have ever seen on a notebook, it had no bleed and it was this great hybrid glossy, it had that contrast and vivid color that glossy is good for while not being a mirror like the G50V is
The CPU obviously was very strong and had no flaws.
The 8600GT did everything I needed it too, the flaw in the card was Nvidias fault not Asus.
It had a normal 15" formfactor
It had a sharp neutral styling to it.
Those are all things I cant say about the new G50V I have.
The only thing that really killed the C90S for me was just the memory compatibility. -
I had no problems with the memory as much with the IR drivers and the weak video card. Selling my C90S and getting a Gateway FX P-7811...I hate the idea if a Gateway. It's cheap enough that I can justify selling and getting a new one every few years. With the C90 I was hoping to get at least one video card upgrade out of it to double the notebooks life.
-
I had BSOD problems with the IR drivers as well but I finally found a stable driver for Vista 64 that lets me use it. If you need a link let me know.
Vicious,
Buy a C90P -
I'll take a link to the IR drivers, I wanna sell a stable system to my friends. do a clean install and sell the notebook on Friday, I should have a new notebook by Monday. Even is I decide not to sell it, I would prefer stable 64-bit IR drivers and I want to get Vista back on here...using XP feels so weird.
-
Straight from Asus and has been working on my Vista 64 C90S for over a month BSOD free: http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/ITE/ITE_Romote_VT_080606.zip
PS: Wait till Friday before you make your decision to sell -

I might be able to post the info on Thursday depending on how things go tomorrow. If I spilled any details now I'm sure there would be about a thousand questions that I wouldn't be able to answer right away due to work and an incomplete write up.
I'll post as soon as I can! Sorry for all the hype guys, but in my opinion, it's worth the wait -

-
It better be a new gpu option or else this thread is a big fat fail.
Well something new is better then nothing, but I'm hoping its the video cards that are on ebay working in the c90s.
nVIDIA Geforce 9500M GT G96 512MB MXM II Video VGA Card

Have you actually ever tried going with no mouse for a day? Its pretty hard but a good way to learn a ton of keyboard shortcuts -
It would have to be a GPU mod or upgrade because that was the main reason why some people got the C90 in the first place. Wouldn't be surprised if they either 1) came with a new GPU option that's worth it (i.e a 9700M GT, GTS, or 9800M GTS) or 2) A HD 3650 works with the C90. I wouldn't see a CPU upgrade (from 65nm to 45nm) that big of a deal due to the minimal performance gain from going from 65nm to 45nm other than less heat and power consumption.
-
The 3650 I can see for $150, but the 9500GT for almost $300, no.
-
Fabrication stage almost complete...
:goes back to work: -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
its actually exciting because the C90 can use the 3870/4850 GPU!! Exciting!!
-
Fabrication stage completed! Posting from my newly modified C90S right now.

Please tell, or give us a hint or else I'll spank you!
-
Working very well so far, however I've run into a small snag that I can't seem to figure out at the moment. I've got to go to work in an hour, but if I get this issue fixed by tomorrow I should be able to post the whole guide at some point tomorrow. If not then Friday
-
I'm glad it's not a new GPU...
-
Pls dont tell us its that Dual Heatsink mod in your sig
-
lol, it's oh so close!
Hopefully it'll be published by tomorrow! -
It can be done a much simpler way, but the results will not be the same.
Still haven't figured this last problem out yet. I'm going to work on it for the next hour before I go to sleep.
PS: Since I've already done the original fabrication work myself, if someone follows my guide exactly and uses the included "tools", they should be able to get the work done in about half that time. Or, if you are lazy, you can do it the easy way. But it wont be SHINY... hehe
Still working on this last small issue.
:falls asleep: -

almost 5 hours? This is definitely the new ATI GPU compatability
Big news expected for C90S owners on 10/10/08!
