I have an ASUS x502c that gives a black screen. At boot up, it starts with preparing automatic repair, goes through a couple of diagnostic screens, then nothing. This machine has no optical drive, and no back up. What could the problem be?? Running Windows 8

Did you happen to make a backup recovery disc/drive? It's hard telling how it happened or what specifically is causing it, but it sounds as though your OS is corrupt.

No, unfortunately no back up.I kept putting it off, since there is no optical drive on this laptop. I have a feeling that I will end up getting a new drive, and OS. Thanks for the help.
