There was some issue with the charger and it seems the motherboard blew. I can still smell the burning smell. Now the laptop turns on for a seconds and then just turns off.

I followed the w3 guide on these forums and see one small IC that is blown. Near the 915PM chip, this IC shows "8C450". I think I could just desolder this and put another one but can't seem to find just that chip on google or ebay.

Does anyone have a w3 motherboard, even a defective one could work? Please let me know.

I saw Asus estore sells the complete mainboard for 250, but I would rather just try replacing the IC.

    Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Having a fried motherboard is very unfortunate and a replacement can take a large toll on your wallet. However, I'm almost certain that the IC chip can not be easily replaced unless you have the necessary skills and a soldering iron. I would suggest RMAing your notebook and have Asus perform the necessary repairs, since a laptop mobo replacement isn't for the faint-hearted and certainly much more complicated than a desktop mobo replacement.

Soldering is not an issue at all for me, been doing it for a long time. I'm just hoping I can find the part, as the mobo at estore is $250 and I'm not sure its worth it to put so much money into this laptop anymore.

If anyone has this part please let me know. Thanks.

$250 is not a good investment for such an aging laptop, in my opinion, since even $700-$800 can get a new laptop that is much faster and more advanced. Plus, other components can decide to go bust after this fix.

I too, was reluctant to repair my z70v when the lcd screen decided to stop working.

That is my thoughts exactly. A new EEE pc is costing less than $400.

I'll wait a few more days if perhaps someone can come up with an old non-working board from which I can just get the IC I need from it.

    Thanks.

Call Asus and ask them how much they would charge to repair? Maybe they would be willing to do it for like $150 or something. cheaper than a new MB but better than trashing.

I know desktop boards sometimes they fix for about $100 or less maybe they can do the same.

I would call also, dont email them because the email clowns dont know the sky from the ground...

    Hi Safoo,

I know that this thread is a bit old, but I stumbled across it looking for a solution to my own problem. I also have a W3V and had issues with the charger and the modular battery. There's a blown IC on the board, and I contacted ASUS about a replacement, but they do not have any MB in stock. What did you end up doing?
