I'm planning to reinstall Windows to get rid of all the boatware that came with my new laptop. My A8J came with a Recovery CD and a Driver & Utility CD.
Does the driver & utility cd include ALL the software I'll need once I reinstall Windows? I don't want to lose those useful non-bloatware Asus programs (like the one that lets me switch between the performance modes).

Yes the the utility CDs have the driver you need, you may just want to download the ATK synaptic drivers from the site, which allows you to use the Touchpad properly.
Also the program you refer to is Power4Gear, this allows the user a one button profile change when on battery. However you can still use other programs for that.
Generaly ASUS does not have a lot of Bloatware, just uninstall P4G, maybe ASUS Dvd and a few others, instead of starting from scratch -
Yeap, pretty much everything you booted up with that is there, is on the software CD.
It's kinda annoying how ASUS has 3-4 programs for wireless, 2-3 for power management, etc. Not necessarily bloatware, but random programs that could easily be designed as one -
Coriolis, that's exactly what I'm talking about when I said bloatware.
My laptop came with a Chinese OS because I got it in Shanghai. I can get XP Pro for free from my university. I don't like reading Chinese, and Pro sounds cooler, so why not...
And Danny from MilestonePC (right? or are you someone else?), I'll have to get a North American power cord from you once I get back to Toronto. The one they gave me is a weird three pronged one. Do you sell the cable part by itself, or do I have to buy the entire adaptor too?
Or should I get it from the Asus repair place up in Richmond Hill? Do you know their email, by any chance?
