    Hello All,

I have been searching for a way to play blu ray discs on my asus g73j using windows 7 (ultimate) 64 bit. Specifically, I am trying to watch blu-ray movies (not retrieve data) using a solid blu-ray codec.

Asus includes WinDVD. Clicking on the link provided me with a web link to download the encryption key. However, the website hangs and doesn't ever send the key. I searched support and found out that winDVD has few positive reviews. The best one I found was a user saying that "it works but it crashes often".

So, I moved on to other codecs. I am willing to pay for a solid blu ray codec.

    PowerDVD
So, I looked at PowerDVD 10 Ultimate which is recommended by Microsoft. I downloaded the trial. It did work, sort of. It installed to the x86 directory which I assume means it uses 32 bit code. Playing the movie was like watching a slide show. So, I uninstalled.

    Arc soft Total Media Theatre
    Same situation. Slide show.

    Shark007's Free Codec
This is a free codec that I downloaded. The author of this codec created this with his free time and he seems to answer forum posts. His codec works on many systems. So, no disrespect intended towards him. Unfortunately, I just could not get it to work on my 64 bit win 7 system.

I am determined to stay with win 7 64 bit. I am just wondering if there is anyone out there with similar issues to me. Any hints?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I have the Total Media Extreme OEM and it worked on everything except Avatar so i bought WinDVD 2010 Pro when it was on sale for $39.

So far WinDVD 2010 has played anything I've thrown at it. I think they all work well, just the OEM versions are not updated frequently if at all.

    Cheers,

Run WinDVD as Administrator. It should be noted that the ASUS WinDVD version might not be able to play newer releases.

While I don't have a Blu-ray drive, PowerDVD 10 works fine here with DVDs.

    Codec pack, yuck!

PowerDVD 9 & 10 and Total Media Theater 3 have all worked fine for me. I'm currently using PowerDVD 10 predominantly.

Thanks for all of your responses. So, all of you are running these programs on 64 bit win7 with no problems?

I will try running as an administrator. I agree maybe that is the issue.

Honestly, I don't think they were. I'll have to check when I get home as I only have PowerDVD10 installed currently.
