I just got the U52F-BBL9 couple of days ago, it didn't come with blu-ray drive.
Since I am in the market for a blu-ray burner, and looking at this external drive
Newegg.com - ASUS Black 6X BD-R 2X BD-RE 8X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 8MB Cache USB 2.0 External Blu-ray Burner SBW-06C1S-U/BLK/G/AS
But I think I will use this new laptop for all my burning needs, why not get an internal drive for this laptop.
Anyone have an idea of what form/model will compatible with this U52F?
Thanks

No worries about the form factor or model, all internal optical drives are usually made with the same factor. All you'll need to do is make sure you swap the bracket from your current drive to the new one, and the face plate too.
Check out this link and see if any of these burners work for you. -
If this work, I probably stick to the external one above so I can have flexibility to burn at which ever machine I wish.
Thanks for the tip Sir. -

No problem! Just watch out for that faceplate, it can be a little tricky to get off without breaking the tabs!
Also, you may wanna make sure they're both SATA, but I guess that goes without saying. -
just finished swapped the drive, took about 30 minutes for the first time.
You are right about little tricky to take the faceplate out of the drive.
One note for someone else who want to do it is before turn off your computer, hit the eject so the tray popped out. You will need the tray to pop out in order to take the faceplate off.
If you get a very small flat screw driver, depress the tab ON THE RIGHT SIDE first....my orientation is as follow laser reader face down, sata connector facing my body, and work from the right tab first......everything start to falling off by itself. I reverted the order when reinstall.
Again, thank you J.P@XoticPC, without your suggestion I would never thought most of the drive are in same form factor. -
Actually, there are different size optical drives - 9.5mm and 12.7mm. Luckily you had one that uses the same height.

I was actually annoyed to see the Alienware systems were slot load and all my spare tray loading Blu-ray drives would be useless working with them.

Given these 9.5mm drives are becoming a bit more prevalent it would be nice for someone to come up with a slot-loading BD-ROM combo drive at a decent price.
