So I popped in a blu-ray disc and I used WinDVD BD for Asus to play it but nothing happens. The program tries to read the BD disc for a couple of seconds and then just gives up. Any suggestions for this? I don't even know what other media player to try.

Oh and I'm using 177.79 drivers.

Hmm you sure Win DVD play Blue-Ray? Im sure it does since yous ayd WinDVD BD, but just making sure as that would be my primary thought if without the details somebody said there new drive wont play a movie.

Also if you have another movie/disk try it to see if it just cant read that one disk for some reason.

Also just check your "my computer" and see if it reads the disk there.

Yup My Computer reads it as a BD-ROM. The Win DVD software I'm using came with the laptop, it's called Win DVD BD (specifically for blu-ray discs). It's really weird because this is a brand new blu-ray disc.

Just tried different drivers and it didn't seem to work. Going to try some older drivers and see how it goes.

I am not sure if display drivers have anything to do with playing a disk or not, if you think it does the safest bet would be the ones that came with the laptop.

Wow this is great. You were right Vicious, the original drivers did it. This sucks, I love those 177.79 drivers :(

You don't have to use stock drivers. I too was in the same situation and found that the modded inf from laptopvideo2go was causing the problems. I re-modded the official drivers with the new nvidia mobility modder ( http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php) and am now using 177.79 to play Blu-Ray discs.

Personally, I'll never use L2GO mods again. Obviously they 'tweak' something that breaks HD playback. NV mobility modder does not.

    Enjoy!

Like I said, I used nvidia mobility modder to re-mod the official drivers.

    Steps:
    1) Download and install nvidia mobility modder
    2) Download and extract official nvidia drivers
    3) Run mobility modder on extracted official drivers per instructions
    4) Uninstall current drivers and reboot into safe mode
    5) Run driver cleaner then reboot
    6) run setup.exe from modded official drivers then reboot

Note that going into safe mode and running driver cleaner is optional but highly recommended. I also disallow Windows from insalling drivers from Windows Update so it doesn't attempt to install Microsoft geforce drivers.

Don't the drivers have an entry in the Add/Remove Programs list? If so, use uninstall from there. Otherwise, uninstall the drivers from the Device Manager. (right click on the device, Uninstall)

DriverCleanerPro for instance, it's a software that removes driver remnants from the system (like DLLs, registry entries etc). Most GPU drivers leave this type of gunk behind when you uninstall them, and that can also mean they leave bugs behind.

I installed the WINDVD-BD from ASUS and i tried to play Superbad. Says region mismatch problem between Disc and Drive but im am almost 100% positive this is a region 1 disc for the US. Anyone know why this would be happening? Im in the Navy and on a ship at the moment so my computer is straight out of the box no updates or anything.

You have to go into device manager and set the region for the drive itself, plus make sure Win DVD is set to that same region.
