That usually happen if you install window on another machine then transfer HDD to a new machine and try to boot it. IRQL not less or Equal means the hardware stored in the data isn't the same as the one it's seeing ( or something like that, i forgot the exact description.) Anyways, from my experience it's usually the "RAM" that cause the problem. If you have 2 sticks, try take one out.

An hour seems long enough... the longer the better.

You should let it AT LEAST go thru one cycle (which I think is about 30mins for 1GB, but I could be wrong)

Alot of people run memory tests over night. But some stress tests can damage a system although very rare. i wouldnt worry about a memory test though.

The atheros do not cause blue screen on a fresh install they do that once you load the drivers. Screwy drivers is partially the reason we dont sell atheros. Dunno if they fixed that issue by now but there is a reason why vendors dont pick them up,

Well not sure about most machines but on mine when it arrived, I installed the new Atheros card and the drivers it came with and the bsod started. I ended up having to try different driver versions before the problem was gone.

I just did today.. I was hoping to figure what was wrong with the machine w/o sending it away (since i didnt by local.. which i dont really mind cause canadasys provided great pre-sales support)

    nope i have the intel 2200 b/g

after doing somemore researching seems that RAM might be at fault here

eh, techspot is a good site to find out what is going on. Go to the OS section of the forum and post a few minidump files and somebody (most likely Howard) will take a look at them and tell you what is causing your bsod.

    Funny you should mention that...
I too had some faulty RAM on my Asus Z63A. Every once in a while, I would get BSOD and random reboots... some programs would crash regularly, and I wasnt quite sure what was causing it.
I ran memtest though... and errors immediately occured (this is where my situation differs from yours...)
So I brought my system back to the reseller, had them replace the RAM, and now all seems to be well. No BSODs so far...and no errors when I ran memtest again.
